[Express] html boxes not displayed in browser

Now I have imported my first images into my new website design. The “large” image page design, one for every single image, has a graphic box for the image, a text box for a caption, another text box for a file name, and the navigation icons.

With the first image, everything went as exspected. But with the second and third, the text boxes are not displayed when I preview the page in the browser. I can not find any reason.

Kind regards - Hening.

Have you uploaded somewhere that we can take a look? if not then this is very difficult to diagnose.

The biggest problem you have is that you are not using the Link to Page action correctly on your Home page.

The action is supposed to be used within a folder of pages but the Site Folder does not count as a folder as the Site Folder itself is not uploaded to the server.

To use this action you would be better to use it within folders that only contain pages and not other folders too.

So I have put the Home page in a Home folder. Now many things seem to work that previously didn’t

This would be a bit of a disappointment. I am using it to link from the Single Image pages 1 level up back to the Thumbs page. For this exact purpose, I have put the single images in a folder inside the thumbs folder, and it seems to work. I hope it goes on with that…

Kind regards - Hening.

But some still don’t. I can not figure out why image-text and file-name are not displayed on the Single Image pages. On the second one of them, “på Røverkollen”, the image-text was displayed in the beginning, but has disappeared now, after in the Properties of the text box I experimentet with Use Master Contents and Use Master Settings, checking and un-checking these options. The file-name is still displayed for this image, both inside Freeway and in the browser. For the others, neither image-text nor file-name is displayed, nor in Freeway nor in the browser. ??

Personally I think this action (Link to Page) is a bit clunky to be used as your main navigation.

Why not create a nice CSS Menu to link to your subfolders and then you could use Link to Page to go between the pages within the subfolder.

Also with your Home page within a Home folder then the home page will not be displayed when someone uses your web address as www.yoursite.com - they would have to use www.yoursite.com/home/whatever.html

Hi Dave

thank you for a fast reply.

Uff, I thougth I was so close…

Please would you care to check the text boxes mentioned in my most recent post? As far as I can see, this is not a matter of navigation.

I’ll try to study CSS menus in the meantime…

So I made a dupe of my master page “Page-w-iFrame-f-text”, moved the narrow vertical html box to the left, shortened it and created a little html box on top of it, a list of my pages inside it, and then applied the CSS menus action to it.

Instead of the predicted message Publish to see something, I get
^^There are no items based on this item so a preview can’t be generated^^

What wrong have I done now?

Have you applied this new Master to any child pages?

But the simple text in an html box still is not displayed, and I can’t find the reason.

(Btw I decided against the fly-out-menu. It overlaps the text i-frame, so that this is not displayed).

I thought I found it: the text color was set to black (on a black background), but changing it to gray in the master does not carry over to the single page.

but changing it to gray in the master does not carry over to the single page.

You will need to check the child pages and in the Inspector look at the settings for the text container.

There are 2 check boxes there

Use Master Content

Use Master Settings

Use Master Content will replicate the content of the container on the Master page

Use Master Settings will use the settings of the container on the Master such as size, position, border etc.

If these check boxes are unticked on the child page then the link to the Master has been broken - usually by editing the container or its contents on the child page.

Hm, I think I understand now.
The new page is by default created with both master content and settings. To enter page content, you have to un-check master content, then replace it by child content. It is not possible to make the default so that the settings are carried over, but the content is not. And you have to enter some text in the master and select it to establish text format settings.
Correct?
