As I’m working on my site, for some reason my graphic items become un-selected. It appears to happen after I “reapply master” to the page. Am I doing something wrong, this is starting to fruststrate me.
Not sure why you are doing this?
More contextual info would help.
Reapply Master has inevitable liabilities.
It is rare I use it. Maybe you don’t need to use it?

Clarification: i used the Reapply once and had the problem, but it appears to be happening for other instances. In particular, I would adjust the color of a graphic item on the Master page and then verify the sub-pages (4 of them); the “Use Master Content” and “Use Master Settings” would randomly be selected or unselected. I keep having to re-select these so they follow suit to the Master Page. As far as I know their selection should remain static unless i click it, no?
Yes, I keep having to re-select - however, it’s somewhat random: sometimes the boxes remain selected, sometimes the boxes change to un-selected. Yes, the boxes were selected before I made the change (I WANT them to be selected so the sub pages follow the Master).
I understand that you want them to remain selected so that they keep your Master settings.
It is the random nature of the problem that is puzzling.
I would zip up your file and send it with an explanation of the problem to support(at)softpress.com - if it is not too big - and see if they can shed some light.

It could be related to what happens when you reapply the master.
When that’s done you get a fresh copy of everything from the master
page added to your current page, even if you already have those
items there. You end up with multiple copies of items, and this can
lead to all sorts of confusion.
IF that’s the case with ‘reapply master’, then it looks like some reworking of FW is in order to reduce mass confusion (primarily mass confusion on my part )
… I just checked my file, and you are absolutely right, I have unwanted copies of items!! I noticed that an item (not the item I’m having problems with tho) on one page was showing a little more crisp than the others - i deleted that item, but the original was there. This non-pro noob say “wth!?” and “I better dig deeper into the reference manual as I climb the learning curve”
but before I do that, i think i’m off to the pub… i’ll deal with it TOMORROW
I’ve had this same problem for a while now. Certain items have a tendency to come unlinked from their masters. I’m constantly having to go through every page in my FW doc and retick “Use Master Settings” in the Inspector. This has so far only happened on one item in one site, but it’s baffling.
The item in question is a graphic rollover created in FW with a Mootools Slimbox action applied to it. Other than that, I don’t have any other clear idea what may be causing it.

The moment you change anything to do with an item’s settings you
break the settings link to the master version of that item. The same
goes for the contents of an item. Anything at all.
Does this sound like it could indicate the reason?
Yeah, I’m aware of this. The problem is that I’m not making any changes to the items. I tick “Use Master Settings”, don’t touch the items and publish the site, only to find that afterwards they’ve come unticked all by themselves and the published result is not what I want.
I’ve found a provisional solution by recreating the rollover, and it’s held for the first publish. We’ll see if it lasts.
The solution appears to be related to the use of the Mootools (and possibly other non-Moo) actions on a master page. It seems they have a tendency to lose the link to the child pages. A workaround is to apply the action to the individual pages and remove it from the master page.
