[Express] MooTools Accordion compatibility

Does anybody know if the accordion action from MooTools will work with the latest version (6.1.2) of Freeway Express?

I would be cautious about using MooTools in any recent version of FW.

Moo hasn’t been updated in over 5 years so its compatibility with recent Browsers and FW versions is questionable.

Besides it uses a different Javascript library to the native FW actions and may cause problems. Best not mixed on the same page.

Thanks Dave. (Do you ever sleep?)

I’m trying to find a way to use an accordion effect in a web page I’m creating in Freeway Express. It looks like ScriptyAccordion requires Freeway Pro.

Do you (or does anybody) have any suggestions for what I could use?

Thanks again!

Hi David
not sure why you think mootools isn’t being developed because 1.5.1 came out about 4 weeks ago. It has a good core following and some great developers behind it including people like David Walsh who have shown how good it is. From recent library use statics, it’s also the third most popular after jQuery and Modernizr and ahead of Prototype/Script.aculo.us. Although stats like this are actually misleading because jQuery has about 90% market share.

As for mixing libraries, I wouldn’t recommend it if possible but if its unavoidable, Mootools like jQuery has a no conflict type of function so technically you could mix different libraries. Plus 'unlike jQuery" you can create bespoke versions of the library that just contain the functionality you need rather than have to use and load the complete library…

core blimey… listen to me, it sounds like I am a mootools evangelist which I am not. Its just that jQuery is not the only library around.

Not MooTools itself - rather Weaver’s Action Suite of the same name.

The main issue with using MooTools (which has been the case for a few years now) is that back in Freeway 5 there were some new Actions that conflicted due to them being based on Scriptaculous (such as the Fade effect). However, almost all Scriptaculous/Protaculous Actions are Pro only, so it is unlikely that Express users will use anything that will conflict with MooTools. I suggest you try it out - you have nothing to lose because, as you point out, all other Accordion methods are Pro only. But if MooTools can’t do it, I’m afraid it will need to be a hand-coding solution with markup otherwise you’ll need to upgrade to Pro.

Thanks for the suggestion Keith. I’ll give it a try and will post results on this thread in case the information is helpful to others.
