[Express] New

Hi all –

I’m new to Freeway and purchased Express with a view to creating a simple, portfolio based website similar to the following:

I realise the basic structure and layout etc is easily done in Freeway but could you tell me is it possible to have the smooth fade in and out carousel-type effect for the images? Rather than moving up vertically, I’d be looking to have them go horizontally? I’ve heard Freeway has plug-ins, are there any which let you do this but without any buttons or arrows, just the effect of smoothly going from one image to the next with a mouse click?

Many thanks!

One long page that has a smooth scroll effect vertically

Easy in Pro with the Smooth Scroll action to produce the vertical movement. The Carousel action would be the one for you.

Unfortunately you are far more limited in which Plug-ins (Actions in FW speak) you can use with Express.

You would probably have to hand code something - you might be better to upgrade to Pro rather than spend all the extra time on it.

Sounds like upgrading is the best way forward. Can I also ask is it easy to update websites once they’re set up as master pages? I was originally torn between a customised cms in wordpress but wanted to do all the design myself. The good thing about wp is it’s easy to update and I was wondering how easy it is with fw before I hit the manual.

Thanks for your help

Its as easy as typing in your changes and choosing File>Upload.

As with any system/software it totally depends on how much you are changing.

The reason I would use a CMS instead would be if it was the client that had to do the updates - and you wouldn’t expect him to by FW just to do that.

Thanks for the replies DeltaDave. I wonder if you’ve heard about EasyWeb which Rage are bringing out as a response to meny Mac users call for an iWeb replacement. I may give that a quick look when it comes out before I decide to go with FW Pro

By all means look at other offerings - of which there are a few.

Not clear when EasyWeb will be available though - or what its feature set is likely to be.

There is one thing you certainly wont get with EasyWeb - and that is the great support community that is FWT!
