[Express] Outbound Page Tracker not Working

Hi,

I’ve just checked my Google analytics page and noticed that my outbound page tracking I have set up on my site stopped working a few months back.

It coincides with my upgrade from FW 5.4 to FW5.5 express.

All my outbound links have a code set as:

http://www.example.co.uk" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/example’)

These outgoing links appear in my GA contents report until 23rd Sept 2010 when they all disappear.

Is there something I need to be doing in FW5.5 that I dodn’t need to do in FW5.4?

my site address is: http://www.specialplacesinfrance.com.

Many thanks

Hi,

Has nobody else come across this problem?

I set up my site with the pagetracker code on all my outgoing links - so I could see who visited where while on my site. Many of my outgoing links are links to other websites on a ‘_Blank’ target.

Since upgrading to Freeway 5.5 Google analytics fails to register any of these clicks in the Top Content report.

Is there anyway I can test this?

Is there, maybe, a new action within 5.5 that allows me to track button clicks leading out of my site?

Many thanks

Many of my outgoing links are links to other websites on a ‘_Blank’ target.

All that really tells you is that you set those links to open in a new window.

I cant help with the outgoing tracker stuff - never tried it.

I set this up once for a client, and I don’t think that outbound clicks appear in the same place as the rest of the traffic. I think you have to look in Custom Events or something like that.

Hi,

Thanks for your time guys.

These outbound clicks appear in the GA Content Overview report. I can then filter the report to display just /outgoing entries.

This worked fine until Sept 23rd, if I track back through the GA stats I can see it working fine until that day.

To test this, I uploaded an old version of the site from FW5.4.3 last night. This morning, GA is displaying my /outgoing stats just fine.

I’ve added a load of content since I upgraded to FW5.5. It would be a real shame if I have to recreate it in the old version again.

Thanks

Hi Adrian,

We updated the Google Analytics Action in 5.5 to the latest version of the code supplied by Google. If this has prevented outbound links from being tracked then check the “Legacy Code” option in the Action palette to use the code that was used in the last version. Alternatively, take a look at the docs on GA to find out if their tracking code has changed in any way.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your advice. Sorry it has taken a while to reply, Google Analytics takes at least 24 hours to display it’s results.

I tried the legacy code method but this didn’t seem to work so I went back to the GA discussions and found a new version of the code. as follows:

onclick="_gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’, ‘/outgoing/example’]);

All now working and I can again track the links people use on my site.

Many thanks

Great, thanks for letting me (and the rest of the list) know.
