[Express] Page link & Rollover

This sentence in your last post I do not understand: {Can you post a link to a page online that has it added - it should be in before } … don’t understand.

All I am asking is that if you have uploaded your page so that it is available online ie at yourwebsite.com/yourpage.html that you share that link with us so that we can see it.

If you have added it to your page using my suggestion ie add the code using Page>HTML Markup in the before <end/Head> section.

Then you can go to your Page and into Page>HTML Markup and delete what you have added.

When I go to the page IN Express I find NO place to delete the markup. so HOW is it to be deleted. The Markup window is blank and the only option showing is the selection box for OPTIONS where to add it (NOT remove it)
So how does it get removed? or altered if possible??

If you look at the Option picker - the one that has code in it has the section name underlined ie end head

Open that section to see the code and delete it.

Once you have deleted the markup

Then try using the CSS Menu action - I think it will be easier for you. You only need to create one menu on your Master page. Select all your existing menu text and copy/paste it into an HTML container select the text and add a List indent and then apply the CSS Menu action to that container. You will need to remove the Pipe character that you have in there though as the Menu action can style that for you.

I am sure there is a Tutorial on using the CSS Menu action as well.

Thanks for your patience.
Will study above and see how it works

Dave… Look at the result of the CSS process as suggested
Here’s a separate test site set up for that purpose:
http://home.comcast.net/~arellano89/index.html
most pages are blank but perception, awareness and index page should have material. Perhaps belief.

One item not solved is that on three pages when selected the page shifts slightly…I’ve closely checked settings and do not discern the cause. All pages are set to use master settings and master content so it must be something else.

The shift is caused because the index page is taller than the others and so generates a scrollbar which is 10-12px wide.

You also have your page width set to (a rather narrow by today’s standards) 725px - I would use 960px which would allow you more content with less height.

But if you do have tall pages then you could add an invisible graphic or empty HTML container further down the page on the shorter ones which would ensure you had a scrollbar on them all.

You can also add back in your Pipe divider to your CSS Menu using the Divider section in settings see http://www.deltadesign.co/fw_examples/pipedivider.html

Thanks… on the index page being taller… I have not been able to verify that. It was & is 1700 as were all other pages except one at 3974 now corrected.
Carefully checked each page to width 960 and height 1700. All pages set to Master settings and dimensions of all pages are the same. Most pages are still ‘blank’

Pages Welcome and Perception still cause a shift.
In Welcome page Site Box the pagelist HTML box title (name) is “Item1a1a” - which differs from the rest where the name is Item “1a [item1a]”. Also the HTML inspector box lacks these two boxes: Use Master Settings and Use Master Content.

I tried pasting one from another page (that was correct) but it didn’t change the situation.

How about deleting either or both pages and re-creating them? If so, How do I cause one to become the new Index.html page?

Studied the CSS and other materials;. but find no solution on those two pages
truly appreciate your help.

Yes - but if there is no content on the page it doesn’t matter what the page height is set to in the inspector because the page will only be as tall as how far down the last item on the page sits.

So an empty page set to 5000px (in the inspector) with its last content at 960px will only be 960px.

So what does that mean as far as the two pages being different when selected (clicked upon} I put one small HTML box on the welcome page and it made no difference. There were and may still be material on the other page.

I just do not see how your answer above helps…not as criticism nor complaint, just do NOT understand why what is written affects the situation; or what to do about it which is the issue. how to solve it so those two pages do not shift when clicked upon.

I asked if deleting them and recreating them by copying one
of the other pages would solve that. can you answer that please.

I put one small HTML box on the welcome page and it made no difference

It wouldn’t because that page is already tall enough to create a scroll bar.

It is the other pages (with no content and no scroll bar) that shift and which you should add some content to to create the scroll bar.

Recreation will not help in this regard.

Dave, I reviewed all documentation and found a reference regarding overflow where there is a selection to always show the menu bar (as I understand it that would include showing it within what is created and published.)
As to adding content to other pages; without seeing the scroll bar it’s difficult to understand. right now for some reason FW express is saying there is overflow on every page and it will not be published.

Overflow is something else entirely.

Overflow occurs in Express when you have 2 html items overlapping the one being overlapped will be visible on your page as a blue box with a cross through it.

The error message will tell the name of the overflowed item ie The following items are overflowed and will not be published. Then it will list which these are like item1a and also tell you on which page they are.

If you note what it says then look at the appropriate page and switch to Page view (instead of Site) at the top of the leftmost column/sidebar of your FW page - all the items on the page will be listed and you will be able to select which one has the problem and deal with it.

A scrollbar can be set to appear if you have too much content in an HTML box for it to display at a certain height - but this option is not available in Express.

The scroll bars I have been going on about are those that appear when viewing the page in your browser.

DeltaDave…
It’s over a year later and while creating a tentative new site for a friend at
http://home.comcast.net/~arellano89/index.html (until it’s perfected then it’s own new site) I’ve the similar problem:
page selection changes page name color when selected but does not stay a different color to let the viewer know which page he/she is on.

What steps can be taken so when the viewer is on the selected page that page color is different so he knows the one is selected?
(it works on 5 other sites as the result of your help last year, but it’s gone
now and I don’t see the way to solve it. I’ve looked thru the above, the CSS stuff in the tutorials and guides so maybe it’s age 87 that’s blocking something.

The simple answer is - use the CSS Menu action which gives you the option to ‘Highlight Current Page’, the colour setting for this being in the Links section of the Action interface.

Unfortunately in Express this is the result:
! CANNOT USE THIS ACTION
The Action “CSS Menus” can only be applied to items that contain a list

All you need to do is ‘draw’ an Html item, click inside it and add your text Welcome

Select the text and use the List tool which is at the bottom of the Text Inspector to indent (Right Arrow) once.

And then apply the CSS Menu action

okay… thanks… now have pages in a box on left

  1. need them in a line across the page. HOW to change to that?
  2. how to have the selected page say a different color. right now each page as selected shifts color slightly and stays in that shifted shade in sequence if opening all in sequence instead of the ONE open being different color.

I think you really need to look at some of the Tutorials if you haven’t done so already

There is one on Adding Navigation which covers the CSS menu action at Softpress » Support » Tutorials

I had studied all I knew about. The video’s I’d missed. From that was able to get it partially achieved but hit a road block and will have to start all over. Some CSS items do not appear in the CSS menu. Found a way to add, but that’s when I got lost and quit.
