pin button

What is a pin button?

Do you have an address (url) for it?

Unfortunately Pro only - so probably Walter digs the “manual way” out?

Cheers

It’s the button so people can pin your website in Pinterest. This is very popular now.

OK - On your FW page Insert>Markup Item then paste in the following code after adjusting it to suit your page address (URL)

<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=www.yoursite.com%2Fyourpage.html" class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>

Then in Page>HTML Markup before end Body paste the following code

<script type="text/javascript" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script>

I’ve never heard of it. Not sure if I’m intrigued or just plain horrified.

I’ve never heard of it.

I hadn’t either until Walter came out with the action!

It just shows the mindset of the masses - personally I have no clue where they find the time.

Interesting, I have downloaded the Action as well, only yesterday I just added a Pinterest button to my site and linked it with the hyperlink to my Pinterest page.

Pinterest users seem to be very active, I only joined a couple of weeks ago and every day get a lot of following and repinning to it. Seems to be mostly (young) female orientated social media.

It is worth noting that Pinterest has raised eyebrows over what it does and how it handles copyrighted images. I know a few photographers who have been concerned - especially as Pinterest copies images to their servers, and then claims reproduction rights for it.

Anyway, for the sake of balance there is a way to block Pinterest from pinning images from your site.

Just add this meta tag to your Freeway page, and that’s it.

That rules me out then  - on all counts.

As a photographer - thanks Paul for highlighting copyright issues and tip. These social media sites do seem to have a less than pleasant agenda.

Och ! if pinterest gets too popular FB will just open their wallet again .

I agree, copyright is a Big issue for me too and thanks Paul, I made some changes. However, social media is very good for promoting readership of my publication and although I don’t have any girly type things on it, young and older mums and dads who have children from pre-school to year 12 are my target audience, so I do what’s necessary to get them to my site.

Seoras you are probably correct, FB will no doubt swallow them if they become too popular!

kind regards
Elizabeth

This code makes a working pin button, but I don’t think it specifies an image from the website to pin. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

I like the no pin meta tag info, too. Would I just add that as a new meta tag to the page and name it anything I want?

Is there a way to do something similar to Facebook? It’s nice if someone creates a link to a business site on Facebook, of course, but not if a copyrighted image is then passing easily around Facebook. Can I keep them from nabbing my pics?

Follow-up: I tried the no-pin meta tag as a new tag on a page and named it “no pin.” All my images were still pinnable. What else do I need to do? Thanks!!

KDE,

In the top bar, go to Page > Meta Tags. Click new and enter this: http://cl.ly/image/3J2I1S433D3x

I haven’t testing this, but it should work.

Thanks very much, Caleb. If I understood you correctly, to make everything on a page unpinnable, I should make a new page meta tag named “pinterest” and the value would be “no pin.” I tried that. The images on that page were all still pinnable.

Remove the space between no and pin in your meta tag value;

Thank you, Caleb. That did the trick!

Still can’t get the code above to work for where I WOULD like someone to be able to pin an image. I get a pin button that connects to pinterest, but it doesn’t grab any image at all. I’ve also tried the code pinterest supplies and get a server error message with that.
