[Express] Some basic Express questions

Hi All,
I have some various FW Exp questions which are pretty easy so I lumped them together as I am sure the experienced on here can handle them. From least vexing to most…

  1. When I open FW how can I get it to open to my 1 website always instead of having to choose it from most recent?

  2. When I update my site and add a page it is a bear to change the roll overs and add a new button to the top of the master menu page. Any tips on making this easier. The menu buttons get out of whack and turn each other off and on etc…, Lining them up is hard - perhaps it’s just me.

  3. Can I incorporate a blog page that looks like the rest of my pages and doesn’t send users away from main site?

4.In actions I see an option for timed sequence and I would like to know what one can use this for or see an example.

  1. Anyone have an example of when to use frames on a page?

  2. What is the easiest way to do a drop down menu in FW exp. I own old copies of Dreamweaver and Flash MX 2004 if that would help. I am having to add new pages and sub pages all the time and wondering how to address.

Thanks a lot,
Al

Hi Al,

  1. When I open FW how can I get it to open to my 1 website always
instead of having to choose it from most recent?

Don’t open Freeway directly, open your site document instead. What
you’re asking about is normal software behaviour, and this is the
simple solution.

  1. When I update my site and add a page it is a bear to change the
roll overs and add a new button to the top of the master menu page

See my answer to #6 - consider using a CSS menu instead. It is more
search engine-friendly than graphic rollovers, too.

  1. Can I incorporate a blog page that looks like the rest of my
pages and doesn’t send users away from main site?

If you use the Blogger actions you have to let visitors leave your
domain to see your blog. But you can incorporate it fairly well
through careful design, and if you put your site navigation into the
blog page design there’s little reason for anyone to notice that
they’ve left your domain briefly. See the blog/news links in
http://www.ma-publishing.com for an example.

  1. Anyone have an example of when to use frames on a page?

Yes. I believe it was 1995, probably February.
Generally, don’t.

  1. What is the easiest way to do a drop down menu in FW exp.

Does Freeway Express come with the CSS Menus action? That will make
your life much, much easier. Just make a bulleted list, indenting
sub-category links further, link up the text as appropriate, and then
apply that action to the HTML box that contains the list text. Bosh.

Dreamweaver will not make it any simpler. Flash - well, you could
do it in Flash, but therein lies another form of real work.

Thanks Keith,
Unfortunately no CSS in Exp. that I see… that would resolve several of my issues.

Do you know anything about the timed sequence action and its purpose?

(For some reason this site formatted my questions oddly; numbering them - I don’t recall doing that).

Thanks,
Al
