[Express] Upload problem

I am consistently having a problem with the FTP Upload function. Time and again I get a 530 error, user name or password incorrect. Tech support at my host (HostGator) has no problem getting in with the same user and password.

Using Cyberduck, I can get onto the site, but again, the same user and password get rejected when I try to upload through Freeway.

I am working with a Mac. I just downloaded 5.4.1 and seem to have the same problem

Any ideas out there?

Thanks, Greg

Try using Command-A in each field (to select all) and re-entering your
details. It sounds like there’s something wrong in one of them.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Thanks for the reply Joe.

I did try cutting and pasting the log in info, and still no go. I got around it by going into the site folder using Cyberduck, and was able to update there. However, if anyone else has ideas about why the upload is not working, I would love to hear them

Hi Greg,

In my experience (through Softpress support) all cases of that error
have been an incorrect username and password, particularly if you can
log in without a problem using other software. Some things to look out
for:

  1. Don’t use ftp:// at the beginning of the server address
  2. If you copy and paste into the fields then be careful that you
don’t take any other characters with you. Copying and pasting can be
deceiving, what looks like nothing could easily be an invisible
    carriage return or space character
  3. This shouldn’t affect authentication but it’s worth a try, if the
first attempt fails then try ticking the Passive FTP Mode option
  4. If all that fails then try a new document, if that works then save
the other (non-working) document as Stationery (at the bottom of the
Save As dialog there are two Freeway document icons, select the one on
the right and save). This will remove the existing information from
the upload dialog and allow you to enter it again from scratch
  5. If all this fails then get in touch with support(a)softpress.com
and someone there will take a look at your case for you

Hope this helps.

Joe
