Which means Comcast, I assume. Seems like it would be easier to just tell everybody how to add the mim-type on their own computer.
The easiest thing of all in the long run will be to put the mime-type on the server. Tell one computer vs. tell N+1 people how to configure a tweaky software setting in a browser they may or may not use.
Again, if your hosting provider doesn’t offer a way to make this change (and I include the ability to use .htaccess files in that – not just giving you a shiny control panel) then there are hosting providers starting near $7 a YEAR who will.
Comcast does not “get” the Internet, and I speak from long and bitter experience when I say that.
