f4v video

Hi,
I’m a newcomer to Freeway and have started to make a few sites. I’m trying to embed some f4v Flash files. For some reason, The Inspector Freeway these as Quicktime files and not Flash.
Can anyone assist?
Many thanks,
David

F4V is just a wrapper for h264 encoded video so Freeway just assumes it’s for QuickTime. If you use the FLV Player Action then you can select the F4V file in the Action palette and display it through Flash.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Many thanks Joe.
In trying to get this going I seem to have developed (or discovered) a bug in Freeway.
The Actions Palette has come up with a Java Script Error. When I click OK it then offers to clear the error. When I say OK to that it goes back to the Java Script Error box.
I’ve tried closing the Action Palette, shutting Freeway it down but the box just keeps reappearing :frowning:
Any ideas?
Many thanks in anticipation.

Delete the action, publish the page and try again.

Also, make sure you update to the latest version of Freeway. It sounds like a bug we fixed recently:

Hi Joe,

I’m afraid that this is getting like the old song ‘There’s a hole in my bucket’.

I have a conflict in the Actions Palette that will not clear, be deleted or respond to a restart. It would appear to be a bug - as mentioned above.

As advised, I went to the Softpress site to download an update. To do that I have to register. To register, I need a serial number (I bought the AS version and no serial number was supplied). To get a serial number I have to register, etc… Another conflict or bug?

So, I cannot register, I can’t get a replacement serial number and therefore I can’t get an update. etc.

Any ideas please?

If you bought on the App Store then it should tell you there that there is an update available - I think!

And if it doesn’t tell you, then that just means you have to wait
until Apple approves it. Apple’s approval process will always take
longer than Softpress’ QA process, because it has to happen after it.
Until and unless all sales of Freeway happen through the MAS, there’s
always going to be this sort of staggered release for the retail and
MAS versions.

Well, you would have thought so David but the App Store just shows the version number that you are buying. In this case 5.5.7. I believe the latest version is 5.6.

As I said, I can’t access the latest version form Softpress as no serial number has been supplied :frowning:

Just to continue this sorry saga…

I removed Freeway from my Mac and then downloaded it again from the App Store and the problem persisted. I then downloaded it onto my Laptop. The problem reoccurred when I tried to use the Actions Palette for selecting the file.

Finally, after hours of trying to get this working I gave up and downloaded Freeway Pro trial.

It worked first time!

This is not good Softpress. You have to do much better than this in the harsh App Store environment. People aren’t going to like the fact that they can’t download an update because your own system won’t allow it without a serial number that you don’t provide or make allowances for them to get one!

Actually, I think you have just invented the Softpress Support-
approved work-around for this case! Here’s the thing:

  1. All apps sold through the MAS are not allowed to have any sort of
    serial number whatsoever.
  2. All apps sold by normal means are going to have a serial number,
and require it in order to start up.

If Softpress were to let you download a full version installer from
their site, it would be the version #2. And since you don’t (and won’t
ever) have a serial number, since you bought from #1, you wouldn’t
ever get past the personalization screen. You couldn’t run the
software even if Softpress let you download it. And they can’t let you
download any MAS version until it’s approved by Apple --and then, only
through the MAS itself – or they risk losing their license to sell in
the MAS at all.

But a 30-day demo will do you just fine until the MAS reviewers finish
their tests and approve the updated version. That’s because it’s
basically a half-step between 1 and 2. It doesn’t require a serial
number, but it has the same code under the hood as the full version
that does require a serial number. It’s just that it turns into a
pumpkin after 30 days.
