I’ve created a fading slideshow. Great, I’m very happy with this. But I want to add a detail to each slide when you pass over a roll over. How is this done? My thinking is the roll over has to appear when the pic appears so as to connect to the detail. Any suggestions?
Is this a Flash based slideshow, a javascript slideshow, what kind is it? Might help get a response to this if a link to where we might see it to understand what you’re trying to do. I look forward to seeing it, if it all possible.
The slideshow I’ve created uses the actions provided in Freway Pro 5.1 I’ve used a roll over on a thumbnail and the show/hide layer for the picture. I’m happy with the output but I don’t know exactly how to introduce details to the pictures. What I would like is for the detail of the picture to fade in after the user passes his mouse over the picture. Each picture is nested with a title.
I think I have to introduce a rollover to the parent/child item?
Yes. Within the layer that contains the image and the text
description, you would need to add a rollover instance to the image
(to send the trigger) and a show-hide target to the text description.
If you have drawn your caption as a child layer (a positioned layer
positioned within the parent layer – the one that shows and hides
currently) then this should be simple to do. Apply another instance
of show-hide target layer to the caption, and set it to initially
hidden. Make the rollover on the picture show and hide the caption
when it’s moused over. Be sure to have a different color “channel”
for your sub-rollovers than your parent rollovers, or you will end up
with an amazing mess!

Okay. In the Rollover and Target actions, there are two sets of
controls for specifying the target. One is called Target Group, and
is a color name (Indigo, Rose, Slate, etc.) and the other is called
MouseOver #. (There’s also a separate Click #.) You won’t see these
controls unless you click over to the Parameters side of the Rollover
controls in the Actions palette.
What I was referring to here was this: let’s say you have four
different layers that you want to show/hide, and within each of those
layers, a sub-layer containing the caption for the image. It might
get confusing if you put all of these rollovers/targets within the
same color group, differentiated only by rollover #. If you used
Indigo for your main rollover group, and then Aqua for the sub-
rollovers, that would be a simple way to keep things straight, since
you could use the same number for each.
Hidden Layers:
Layer: Target Indigo 1
Image: Rollover Aqua 1
Caption: Target Aqua 1
Layer: Target Indigo 2
Image: Rollover Aqua 2
Caption: Target Aqua 2
Layer: Target Indigo 3
Image: Rollover Aqua 3
Caption: Target Aqua 3
Layer: Target Indigo 4
Image: Rollover Aqua 4
Caption: Target Aqua 4
Main Controls:
Image: Rollover Indigo 1,
Image: Rollover Indigo 2,
Image: Rollover Indigo 3,
Image: Rollover Indigo 4
See?

Walt, I’m not sure what you mean by channel colors for sub-roll overs.
Sorry, I thought you meant you could actualy see color indicating channels as in Photoshop!
I’ve drawn my caption as a child and the picture and caption show and hide when the thumbnail is passed over by the mouse. I want a detail pic to show when you pass the mouse over the parent picture.
Why put a show hide target action to the caption?" Make the roll over on the picture show hide the caption"??
Oh, sorry, that’s what I thought you wanted to have happen. If you
want to show-hide the detail, then simply substitute that detail
image for the caption in my description. It sounds simple enough to
do, the question really is whether nesting these things will work
correctly in your target browsers. My guess is that it will, but you
should test, nevertheless.

I’m still having trouble with showing a detail for my picture. I have a parent box with a child picture and a child caption . The parent has a show/hide layer and a thumbnail has a rollover for these. Now I want to show a detail when I move the mouse over the picture that shows. If I apply a rollover to the child Picture this does not work. The pic flickers in preview mode. What am I doing wrong? help please!
Just to clarify - what I am supposed to see here is a fading slideshow of x no of images.
And what you want to have is rollover on the ‘slides’ that show a more detailed section of the image. Or am I not picking you up correctly.
At the moment there is no slideshow in evidence - the only thing i get is the rollover on the 1st thumbnail which then displays eclips.jpg
Can I also make a suggestion that the thumbnails that you have are so small as to make their content totally unrecognisable. It is my understanding that a thumbnail should at least give a hint to the viewer of what the bigger picture should look like and as a result create interest.
Yes, I only have one picture set up. But when you pass your mouse over the first thumbnail, the picture of eclipse shows itself. If you click on the eclipse picture a detailed image is supposed to show up.
Don’t worry about the sized of thumbnails…this is a work in progress and I can’t seem to make the details show up.
thanks for having a look

Does the fading slideshow not come into it then?
What you are describing is a rollover or show/hide image with a further rollover or show/hide image on that.
David,
Yes, as I have said earlier in the thread…this is a fading show/hide action and a roll over…with a further roll over or show/ hide layer. I thought by you looking at the page you were able to see the code. Something is not working with Freeway. I’ve gone over this too many times and would like to know if anyone can tell me why this is not working. I think there is something buggy about the program.
Once again, The slideshow I’ve created uses the actions provided in Freway Pro 5.1 I’ve used a roll over on a thumbnail and the show/hide layer for the picture and caption. The pictue and caption are child items of a parent…and the picture and caption show and hide when the thumbnail is passed over by the mouse. Next I would like an additional detail pic to show when you pass the mouse over the child picture.
I’ve tried to add an additional roll over to this child picture and a show hide layer to the detail picture which is stacked on top. I’ve tried a mouse over and/or a click. Neither of them seem to work.
When I use the mouse over for the detail to show there is a flickering that happens in the preview mode. If I change to a click instead of mouse over …this works to a certain degree but not as expected. After clicking for the detail, it shows up but when you go on to view the next thumbnail pu even though I used restore / or not…
If anyone knows what’s going on I would be so grateful…this is the one detail keeping me form launching the site. I’m on my last breathe, last straw, no more hair left, etc. please help
