I have created a simple banner ad using Quark Interactive Designer, and I originally had the whole banner set up so that when it was clicked, it would open the site it is advertising in a new window.
However, I have discovered that by default the Flash plug-in doesn’t allow this if the link is to a different domain name, and throws up a security alert. Not ideal.
So, I removed the link in the Flash banner, and in Freeway placed a transparent graphic box over the swf banner, with a link applied to the gif. This works on a Mac when on the live site, but not a PC. So, I tried with an Image Map - same thing. Mac Good. PC Bad.
I also meant to ask whether static content can be added if Flash isn’t installed, although I have a feeling that needs to be part of the .swf item, and not easily done within QID. The site goes crazy on an iPhone!
This is relying on broken behavior (when it works, it’s violating the
standard policy). Each plug-in in a browser is responsible for its own
“air space”. HTML links are handled by the browser. Any link that
exists within the rectangle defined by a piece of plug-in content (of
any sort) is supposed to be handled by the plug-in. If it “leaks” out,
then that’s a bug in the plug-in. A plug-in essentially takes over the
entire x(1,2,3,4)y(1,2,3,4)z space within its area, and the browser
just draws a blank rectangle in that same space.
