Flash video not displaying correct size

Hello FreewayTalkers,

I’m new to the community here and Freeway5 Pro (trial).

Just trying to put some flash video on a page.

Encoded my .flv to 480 x 360.

Followed episode 15 of Freeway Moments (working with Flash video) to the frame to import the .flv and preview in Safari.

Problem - video is not 480 x 360. As a result it looks jagged. Playback in other .flv players is as expected and video quality is too. Screen grab tells me FW is displaying the .flv at 425 x 320 (not including the player/controller) in Safari.

The box that contains the .flv back in FW doesn’t seem to affect the size of the .flv unless it is less than 480 x 360, but no matter how big I make it, the .flv display is short of expected 480 x 360.

Is there a limit to the size FW will display a .flv? Or as usual - something I’m overlooking.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I’ve been getting this too recently with importing Flash SWF items from CS4 through “File > Import” into an HTML item. It’s like they’re super tiny even though I know the file dimensions are much larger. I try to “fit content to box” and it just shrinks the HTML box down to the smaller size.

I saw a thread on this a while ago, but couldn’t find a solution or even the thread. One thing I did see was the “Flash Extras” but I know I didn’t have to do this before.

Anybody else run into this? Perhaps a bad Flash plugin?

The problem with the FLV Action is down a technical issue to do with
varying video sizes. As it currently stands the video needs to be
placed in a container, if the video has different dimensions to this
container then it will be resized to fit. We are looking into ways to
improve this, in the meantime you will need to resize the item in
Freeway or use the old method of importing a SWF (which should already
be the correct size if it was created wit the FLV) into an HTML item
and then uploading the associated files along with it.

Dan, I’m not sure what’s happening with your SWFs, the live preview
should auto scale with the size of the item in Freeway, doesn’t it for
you?

Hope this helps.

Joe

I am also having this problem. Strange thing is, when drag/drop it from the finder into the freeway page, it’s in the correct size.

I’m led to believe that there must be some size limitation, because I sized my container to 480 x 360 (and bigger),
but the biggest .flv FW will put in those containers is 425 x 320. There’s no resizing going on above 425 x 320. But I wouldn’t want it to resize it - just display it at the size I encoded it!

Once I went back to Adobe Media Encoder and encoded a 425 x 320 .flv and published that through FW it looks fine. I’d rather use a 480 x 360 video for the site I’m building, but the smaller size will have to do.

Thanks, Brian

Maccie, same situation over here.

If I draw out an HTML item (100px x 100px) onto a blank Freeway page and then select the HTML item and goto “File > Import” and select a SWF file it is imported 100x100. However, if I go into Finder and drag and drop the SWF file onto the page it appears the normal size which in turn I can select the SWF file, cut and paste it inline to the HTML item and then it appears the size it should be.

Can anyone replicate this…or would a video help? Perhaps a bug.

Hi Dan,

So when you import it into an item of a specific size and change the
size of that item does the Flash file resize with it? If not, can you
send me the Flash file please.

Thanks,

Joe
