Force to open in 5.5

Freeway is ignoring my get info setting to open a project in 5.5. It is annoying to have to right click on it and specify 5.5 every time I open this project.

It would be nice if 6.1 would check the settings in the Get Info panel before trying to open the file in version 6.

Thanks

I think it would be easier to right-click the contextual menu and open in 5
– or have the 5 icon in the dock and drag the Freeway 5 file onto it.

The problem is not Freeway, but with your operating system. The OS is what
decides how your file is handled, not FWP.

Best wishes,

So you install 6 and magically the OS decides that a 5.5 file should open in a later version? It has to be told to do this. Most likely there is a line of code in a FW 6 support or prefs file that supercedes an older version and tells it what to do.

Shortly after downloading FW6 I launched a huge website created in 5. Version 6 knocked it to pieces in some places. I had to go through every page and every object, fixing quite a few things. For now, I am starting new sites in 6 and tweaking old sites with 5.

Thanks

Whenever you open an older version site/document in FW6 the original site is preserved, untouched but renamed ie yoursitename[FW5].freeway

So if you have issues you always have the earlier version to revert to.

When you install a new version of an existing application, Mac OS X updates the system-wide registry that maps application types to their respective applications. There is nothing you can do about this, beyond making a sweeping change to always open all .freeway documents with 5.5, or setting an individual file to always open with 5.5 rather than 6. The only thing that Softpress could do about this would be to change the file-type extension to be different between the two versions, which is not in their best interest on a number of levels.

You can manage this preference through the File Inspector in Finder. Select a file, and choose File / Get Info… from the main menu. Look in the ‘Open with:’ area mid-way down the Inspector. If you set this particular file to open with 5.5, then it should do that. If you then press the Change All button, then all .freeway files will open with 5.5 in preference to 6.

Changing the parent app to 5.5 via get info doesn’t work. It opens in 6 anyway. This is the first time I’ve seen this.
