foreign font

I have a web site that uses a non-latin alphabet. I normally need to convert the text to a gif to have it available for everyone to see. I thought that version 5 was going to have a way to save the text and not have to convert it to a GIF?

Has anyone seen this capability?

If a typeface isn’t available on the computer of every visitor to
your web page, then those visitors won’t be able to see your text in
the correct typeface - unless you set it as a graphic. That’s a basic
fact of life I’m afraid!

Well that was the way it used to be. You had to change it to a graphic, but somewhere I read in the Freeway 5 info that there was a way (maybe with unicode) to have a foreign font show up as regular text and not a graphic. I just can’t find the exact info at this time.

OK I found it. It says:
UNICODE—BECAUSE IT’S NOT SUCH A SMALL, SMALL, WORLD
Unicode text allows you to mix characters from many languages within a single line of text. Visitors to your site don’t need to have special fonts for each language, or to select the page language from a list—it just works. Each Unicode font can contain tens of thousands of characters or glyphs.

They are mixing Chinese, Russion text.

Aha. This means you have access to the thousands of characters (or
glyphs) in the standard web-safe fonts. NOT that you can use any
unicode font.

This isn’t something that can be changed by any application, it is a
fact of HTML life. The whole ‘web-safe font’ concept (see
http://www.thetypographic.com/lecture/websafefonts.html) still stands.

But all set using the same web-safe fonts.

Sorry!
