Hi Gordon,
I just used your form ‘with a invented email address and an http://
link’ for what could be considered spam, it doesn’t seem to stop that,
I can only guess that someone has not yet come across the form to use
it this way.
I do recommend people to try and test any of their forms as a means
for sending spam type emails and see if these are blocked, if they are
not then one day someone will find it and use it.
Many people cannot check against ‘bots’ using their form, that is
hopefully something that is blocked by a CAPTCHA or similar, but as I
mentioned some people now use forms manually to send spam, try sending
html addresses and using [url] and [http] in your form, these are not
the only things that are used to send spam, but it is these ones I
found I had to block against with easiForm, if you can do this with
the form processing script you have then I would advise doing that
unless you need people to send emails with http:// in them.
I noticed you also use an option to click to open your email address
in an email program, one of the main reasons of using a form on a web
site is to try and avoid having to doing this, I really would would
advise against it. I know it is not impossible to stop someone getting
an email address as they would simply need to send a message in your
form to get it in most cases, but the people who crawl the internet
looking for forms can very simply just click that link and have your
email to add to an email database for spamming, at least you can make
the decision if an email contact from a web form is likely to be
legitimate before answering… all this helps cut down on getting spam.

Hi there
I have had great success with the free FormMail and Captcha files
from Tectite at http://www.tectite.com/
This script can be customised in may different ways and allows files
to be uploaded and forms to be spread over several pages.
You can see it in action at a basic level here http://www.gordonlow.net/contact/
Best wishes

Rather than using a hidden text field why not use a Captcha so that
users have to copy some text into a field before the form can be

Have a look at Mike B’s easiCaptcha http://actionsforge.com/projects/view/36-easicaptcha
