Form Element Background Colour

I know this has been discussed before but I can’t find the thread.

How can I change the background colour of form elements from the
garish yellow that it defaults to when I view in MS Explorer on a PC?

I’d just like to make them all plain white. I think it has to be
done via styles but I need a simple easy to follow tutorial on how to
incorporate the code.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Open the main styles window and create a tag style named “input”, no quotes. Be certain there isn’t anything in the Name field. Select the background color from the drop-down menu and that’s it. This will apply the color to every input field in the site. If you want to target specific fields only then let us know.

If the style isn’t picked up in the preview then you may need to use the Publish Everything command to force FW to update. You can do the same thing with text area fields and other form controls to some extent though not every browser will support every styling option.

Todd:

Thanks very much for the reply. I follow along ok till I get to the selection of the background color form the drop-down menu…where is that drop-down function exactly to select the color?

With the main styles window open click on the small “+” icon in the
“Character” section of the window. This will display a list a
attributes. Select “Background color”. That should do it.

hmmm…still showing the yellow background in FF and in MS IE7.
Shows fine in safari. I’d share the page with you so you could check
it but its a secure form.

I may just have to put up with it. Thanks Todd.

I often style my form elements and it’s been working fine in IE 6 and
7 (never checked FF Windows). Not sure why it’s not working for you.
If I think of a possible cause I’ll post it.

The yellow might indicate that you have auto form-fill on. It might
be something that the browser is doing for you, not anything to do
with your page design. Try going to another site which has forms, and
see if the yellow follows. If it does, you can rule out your site as
the culprit.
