When using Forms To Go (FTG) to build forms in Freeway, all you do is create the form on your page as usual, then drop the HTML file of the page containing the form onto the FTG icon and FTG recognizes it as a form and opens to allow you to set-up the form.
This works very well unless you are using a Box Model layout. When doing so, FTG does not recognize the HTML page file as containing a form.

I contacted BeBoSoft, makers of FTG, explaining the situation. I sent them links to a page where the form works, 1. my Contact page that I modified and FTG recognizes as a page containing a form, and 2. a Test page that uses the same Box Model layout as the rest of my site that FTG does not recognize as having a form.
They replied with this:

The test.html page is missing the tag, therefore, FTG is unable to recognize the form.

I’m not a coder but can see from Safari’s “View Source” that they are correct.

My question is, how do I get FW to create the Form Tag in the box model Test page?

Here are the links:

Thanks,
Vic

Hi Vic,
This is a know issue when creating box model layout pages. Apply the
Multiple Form action ([Multiple Form - ActionsForge](http://www.actionsforge.com/actions/view/43-multiple-form)
) to a parent element and create it manually.
Regards,
Tim.

Are all the form elements within a single div in your box model?

Tim,

Thanks. I have applied the action. However, it does not really solve the problem as the action asks for “Method” and “Action”. I understand what is meant here but the Action info (contact.php) is not available until after FTG has opened the HTML page file and produced the php script. In order for it to do that, the form tags have to be in the code.

I took a snoop around Action Forge and found one called TagWrap. I applied it and was successful in getting FTG to recognize the HTML page file. However, I wasn’t successful in getting the form to work but that may be a different problem with something I have done within FTG.

chuckamuck,

The form elements are in a table which is contained within a div which is contained within a div, etc.

Thanks,
Vic

I checked my settings in FTG and made a correction.

The form now works on my Test site (box model) using the TagWrap action to create the necessary form tags. Onward and upward.

Thanks,
Vic

Okay, in actual fact, the form did not work with just the TagWrap action applied.

I ended up having to use both the TagWrap and Tim’s suggestion, the Multiple Form action.

The TagWrap action was initially applied to the table containing the form in order to create the Tags and \< /form\> so that FTG could read the HTML page file. However, after FTG created the php script, the TagWrap had to be deactivated or deleted.

Then, the Multiple Form action had to be applied to the table containing the form.

I have a tutorial on my website, [http://formstogo.stationv.com/](http://formstogo.stationv.com/) , that describes how to apply captcha using Forms To Go. I will add this procedure to it soon.

Sounds like you got it figured out.

I’ve been working with captcha’s with ExpressionEngine for most of the day today and there’s a few server requirements to get them working which is why the FTG tutorial you sent me long ago worked locally for me in MAMP, but didn’t work on an actual test server. It was because of my server setup and there was no two ways around it.

Even if there were a way I doubt I could re-tell anyone and expect them to get it.

I don’t have time for a screen-cast, but with your permission I might redo it and post it on my FWTuts site and give you credit for it. I like having these kinds of tutorials in my ScreenSteps library so if someone asks me for one I can save a PDF out or redirect them to a URL.

Again it sounds like you got it figured out, so congrats.

Dan,
No problem. Your tutorials are always appreciated.

I didn’t have any server problems setting up Captcha. Just had to manually create a folder (directory) via Cyberduck. I think I have that part described in my tutorial.

It has been frustrating at times but rewarding to finally get all the great features of Forms To Go to play well with Freeway. My next venture is to get the info collected via the form to export to a CSV text file so that the info can be dropped into a Numbers (or Excel) spreadsheet.

Thanks,
Vic

Hi Vic,

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread and the resulting solution. Thanks to Dan’s excellent tutorials, I’ve started to embrace the Box Model for my sites. It’s certainly made my sites more organised and structured, but thrown up a few new problems at the same time; FTG being one of them.

Anyway, my form’s working now ([http://www.southernrewinds.net/contact.html](http://www.southernrewinds.net/contact.html)) thanks to this great community.

I’m hoping that the focus in Freeway 6 will be on CSS.

Thanks again.

Ade

Glad to see they helped out.

I just looked at your site. Looks like a lot of content is being worked on, but I will say that the form looks good.

Thanks Dan. Yes, there’s a lot of stuff that I’m waiting for from the client. They’ve also now decided that they want to add pages, which is okay except the css menus and footer links don’t update from the master, but I guess that’s for another thread!

By the way, I download and keep all your video tutorials; they’re a real godsend for a print guy like me.
