I presume you have done your own site which is with Easyspace, why don’t you just create a subfolder and then create your house for sale site and upload it into that ?

free hosting will give you an awkward url and your site will probably be plastered with ads and other rubbish

just a thought

Thanks for that Gary - that’s a good idea and I had thought of it but for some strange reason figured that it was not the best way of going about it - no real reason just a niggle in the back of my head but you’ve convinced me that it’s the better way to go. Good of you - Roger

One.com are pretty good… not free but still a .co.uk or.com site is just a tenner or so!

Just one other thing Roger - depending on the hosting level you have with easyspace - it can work out cheaper to use James at Havehost with a multiple hosting account or David Owen at ineedwebhosting - then you can host any domains you like, when you like, configure your own email addresses and a load of other things that Es charge a whole lot more for. I used them originally but they have become more expensive since they were taken over and I am very upset with them - I have moved several domains away from them and the rest will follow soon. The ability to control your own stuff is really great, I have used Have host for over four years or more and I have never looked back.

Thanks again Gary - I’ll look into those two, so do you create web sites for clients and manage the domains for them ? also - to go a little off topic - is it simple to move from, say, easyspace to another host ? Best Roger

Sorry, also, I know so little about this that looking at the two sites (‘ineedhosting’ and ‘havehost’) I don’t even understand the vocabulary used … I must try and learn this stuff … so I’m struggling to make a choice … basically I need a host for my basic site and, in effect, a few more sites when friends or ‘clients’ ask me to build one for them. Thanks for your time Roger

It is easier to change hosts than it used to be ( for beginners at least )

I opened a multi site account with James at Havehost, this gives you lots of megabytes of space on Havehosts servers where you can store and upload your websites. Then you have access to a master control panel where you add accounts to host. you can leave the domain names registered with Easyspace

basically what you have to do is create a new account for yourself in the HH control panel with username and password, create any email accounts you need, upload your site to the new location, currently your website will have nameservers of NS1.easyspace.com, NS2.easyspace.com, etc. all you do is go to the change nameservers area in Easyspace control panel and change them to NS1.havehost.com, NS2.havehost.com, or your own if you choose to have one, NS1.burton your company name or similar, it presumably will have to be unique, within about 48 hours the change should be complete, you must set up your email accounts at HH first before the change or your email will be delayed, there are a few more things to do but I can help you with those if you need. there is a good help section via the control panel.

it is a little daunting at first but once you have done one the rest are easy and you feel more in control since you can now add or delete accounts at will, it is the best thing I have done ( since buying Freeway that is )

Thanks Gary - neat site BTW, is that a freeway action ? that darkening of the background as the image enlarges is really nice for making the viewer ‘concentrate’ on the shot ! Roger

thanks Roger, simple and neat because I have had very little time to do anything else with it yet

the action is courtesy of Weavers fine ( very good $15 value ) mootools suite

Hi Roger,

We personally help Freeway users and talk you through how to get set up with hosting, and can guide you through how it works. Our hosting starts from £1.25 a month and uk domains are only £3.75 per year. Ideal for most basic Freeway sites. You can upgrade “as and when” you need to add features.

Once you’ve created an account (You can do this without order anything - to have a look around) You can add as many hosting account or domains, all accessible from this single client account panel.

Domains can be registered in your clients names if you wish, And even better for the web designer, your clients can have access to separate unbranded (different URL) control panels (i.e. your control panel with ineedwebhosting can be totally separate) Giving you the opportunity to charge your clients for this hosting.

If you need to ask a question just go here:

Forgive me for dragging up an old thread, but I came across this while searching for something else and just wanted to say that I use David’s “I need webhosting” and would highly recommend it to anyone still looking for hosting.

Easy to use and great support - very patient with my novice questions!!

Heartinternet.co.uk do free hosting once you have a domain with them. And the hosting is totally free, nothing added on like adverts or anything.

But… (there is always a but) its free because Heart supply no Technical support!

Lets hope nothing goes wrong. I suppose when things do go wrong, you end up signing up for “paid for” full price hosting.

“No such thing as a free lunch” as they say.
