Free Menus

If you absolutely do not want to build your own menus then the kids at
Hive Logic started a gallery of styled menus the source code of which
can be downloaded (includes graphics).

Very nice. Exactly how doe one incorporate into a FWY document? Is it ‘html insert’?

After I posted the link I did play around with it and it’s easy to set-
up but I didn’t use FW to do it though it’s certainly possible.

I’ll try to put together a FW example unless someone beats me to it.

There are basically two ways to incoporate the css menu code from that site. There is a significant difference in the two ways because one way allows the css styling to be sent to an external style sheet, and the other way embeds the css in the page code. The following steps assume that you have already downloaded the css menu code and graphics.

Starting with the embeded method (because it’s the easiest):

  1. Start your Freeway document as normal by creating a folder to keep the site folder and media folder in.

  2. Draw out an html box. With the box selected create a list by clicking on the indent button in the inspector pallet and type out your menu text items.

  3. Preview the page. (the reason for this is to get the resource folder generated)

  4. Transfer the graphic files from the “images” folder that you downloaded into the Resource folder. (I know, I know, but the reason will become clear in a bit)

  5. Open the stylel.css in a text editor. Select all the code and copy it.

  6. Back in Freeway, go to the Page menu and select HTML Markup. From the drop down list select Before and in the dialog box paste your css code. Click above the code you just pasted and type and hit return. Then at the end of all that code type .

  7. Within the body of the code are references to where the graphic files are that you will need to change. The code will look something like “background:url(images/menu_031_bg.jpg) no-repeat;”. Change the word “images” to Resources. Click ok out.

  8. The last thing to do is name your html box the same as what the code shows. In this example it’s called “menu” so just name your text box “menu”.

When you preview you should see your menu.

The second method involves importing the external css into the Styles Editor and tweaking it a bit. Freeway doesn’t 100% accurately import the code so there are bits that need to be changed and added. If you want me to I can write out the steps for this as well, but it is much more involved and I don’t have the time at the moment.

One thing I forgot to mention. Make sure to add links to your list items or the styling effects will not appear.

Dear Chuckamuck… ( with blush i dare to ask) please tell me where these links go?
i have no idea
:frowning: in the markup? in the document?

Nope, much simpler than that. Just select the text of the list and add a link to it from the links menu at the bottom of the screen, or using command/k key combination.

I also thought of a third method after I posted the first way. You could keep the external css style sheet you download as is and use it directly by adding some html markup the page. The markup would look like:

You will have to change the stylesheet file name (which in the example above is “sheet1.css”) to whatever the external stylesheet name is. Also the path to style sheet must be correct which in the above example is “css/”. If you set up your Freeway document to output external stylesheet then the “css” directory is made for you so all you would have to do is put the new stylesheet in that folder.

i’m realy trying but can’t get it to work. i downloaded the menu 22 and bought the psd file ( seemed only nice to do that LOL) but i’m having a hard time at it.
So iff a FW example would be possible, i would be very greatfull. Don’t see where i’m doing it wrong.
( perhaps a hard week behind me?)
Have a nice weekend!
