Freeway 6 layout issues

I opened an existing site created in FW5.5 into FW6 and it appears ok, but when uploaded it is all over the place. Not sure where to start.

I haven’t changed a thing, just opened and uploaded.

Has anyone else noticed this?

This is a link to a screen grab showing the layout issues. It seems to have completely ignore the top graphic and is sitting underneath.

Also some of the actions I had used no longer seem to work.
Simple include pro is one.

The thing is, all the content is being brough in from a CMS.

Nathan, I just converted the WMP website from 5.5 to 6 and everything went relatively smooth AFTER Softpress released 6.0.3. Any versions prior to that were nightmarish. I don’t recall having any issues with positioning, but prior to 6.0.3 I had a lot of problems with Actions and Master Pages.

Make sure you download the latest version of FWP before attempting the upgrade. You’ll find it here: Freeway Pro » Powerful web design software for Mac

Next, you’ll need to upgrade all of your Actions that are not FWP 6 compliant, which also means unapplying and reapply said Actions (i.e. Carousel).

Good luck! Let us know if you need any help.

Oh, and another thing, which is very important. FWP 6 now creates a CSS stylesheet for EVERY page in your website. If you have FWP pages which are named the same as the default Perch CSS styles, the Perch CSS will be overwritten. (i.e. blog.css and gallery.css)

This happened with me with my FWP gallery.php and blog.php pages. Here’s the updated site if you want to deconstruct it:

OK thanks. I will go through the site and reapply the actions. It’s going to be a very timeconsuming job though. I have hundreds… :frowning:

I have a separately named css file for all the extras so that should be fine.

Thanks again.

Hi Nathan (and anyone else that has seen this thread),

You don’t need to reapply Actions. Just installing them is enough.

Joe, is that true of all actions? It seems like I had to reapply the Carousel Action.

Also, I’ve had issues installing actions in FWP 6. Would you please review the process?

Thanks!

If you go from Carousel 1 to 2 then you will need to reapply them (similarly Protaculous 1 to 2), but any others are just direct updates rather than entirely new Actions.

And what about installing Actions? What is the proper procedure? Cam I just drag and drop them into the Actions folder or must I install them using FWP?

You can do either, they are equivalent (assuming that these are new Actions, not upgrading old ones). When upgrading, I have had better luck with removing the old version and adding the new one (in that order) so you don’t end up with the Finder helpfully appending a 1,2,3 to the filename and getting duplicate Action errors as a result.

You can do either, or you can drag them onto the Freeway application icon. Be careful of double clicking them – if you have the previous version of Freeway installed there may be a chance that the Action will install itself in that.

I also bought and tested FW 6 (from 6.01 to 6.03). Opening existing files created in 5 (now 5.6.5) has a couple of specific problems that make it unusable for me:

Some items actually move on the page (I haven’t used Carousel). And in 6, imported Illustrator eps files disappear. I see them in Page view but they’re gone in Preview.

So for now I’m sticking with 5. Something tells me that in spite of all the great work done (I’m a fan and had personal help from Walter Davis a couple of years ago when I had a problem), 6 will take a while to stabilise, or it’ll require a lot of re-installing or redesigning existing work. We are already on 6.03 in a matter of weeks…

Nathan, What’s the postscript on your conversion efforts?

I have stopped converting for now. The site I have and am working on at the moment is very large and I don’t have the time to reapply the actions. I will when I have more time.

All new sites will be in FW6 unless I see encounter problems like David, but the 10-15 sites that require minor updates now and then will remain in FW5.

Sorry - have just noticed the comment from Joe that reinstalling the action will be good enough. So will give this a go.

I have encountered a couple of actions that don’t work, plus a few layout issues after opening a FW5 site in 6 and uploading which will also need to be addressed.

Hooray and thanks to the team!

I just got the Fwy 6.06 update and this seems to have stabilised some issues: I can now see eps files in preview. I know it’s the nature of software releases to be a bit buggy and I’m grateful to benefit from a very responsive team.

Unfortunately I have a problem I’ve seen before in previous Fwy versions when previewing or uploading: I occasionally get an error as it writes the file page by page, which means that I have to save, quit, re-open and try again until all the pages are “previewable”. It’s always worse with more complex files.

I’d say Fwy 6.6 is a little bit slower to preview too but I’m sure the benefits will make up for it.

Thanks to Softpress and their army of helpers!
