If you’ve been waiting for responsive web design in Freeway, you might want to head over to http://www.softpress.com right now.
In addition to the responsive features you’ll also get automatic navigation menus (a new feature in the CSS Menus), an Action for easily adding meta data for Google, Facebook and Twitter making your pages more noticeable in the vast sea that is the web, and (a particular favorite of mine) enhanced productivity features for quickly doing those repetitive tasks like applying Actions, custom margins and padding, and navigating items and pages using the keyboard.
To all you Express users out there, I’m sorry to say there isn’t an upgrade for you. To make up for this, we’ve changed our upgrade pricing so there’s just one price for upgrading from all previous versions ($75). I know this is more than the original price of Freeway Express, but Freeway Pro offers so much in the way of extra functionality that I’m sure you’ll think it’s fair.
If you’re waiting for your responsive Marketplace templates, they’re going to be a couple more days. When they’re ready, you’ll be able to download the new versions at no extra cost.
Note to Backdraft customers: Give me a few days with FW7 to evaluate it and see what Backdraft’s “best way forward” is. If you have any suggestions, send me an email. Also, Softpress caught me at a bad time - I’ll leaving to go camping in the boonies for several days in a few hours, so please excuse any tardy communication.
Curiously the Softpress website converts the advertised $75 upgrade price to £55 for UK users (where Softpress is based). Yet the current conversion works it out to be just under £45.
I just want to say summer (here in the US) is the perfect time to do an upgrade as for many of us, our work schedules are lighter during this time of the year. For me I am off all summer so it is ideal. Not sure if you considered this but the timing is awesome.

VAT? In the US tax is never included. In EU it’s always included. Well … that’s my best guess anyway.
Very pleased to see this news Joe and I think it’s great timing. I’m just a do-it-yourself web man, for my own business, but I’ve been using FW since 1.0 and I’m delighted to see this move, which has come just as I was beginning to think; it’s time for me to do some sort of ‘responsive’ upgrade to my website.
(BTW … I notice there has been an upgrade to CSS Menus action. Does this mean that it will no longer hang when using multiple CSS Menu actions on the same master page? (Re : our little bug exchange a couple of years back)).

I’ve been using multiple CSS menu’s on one page for quite some time now, and it’s doing just fine.
Can’t find any mention of whether the UK price includes VAT or the US price excludes tax.
We are used to being over-charged in the UK but it is mainly by larger companies based overseas. It would be very disappointing if British-based Softpress were charging their British-based customers 20% more than their US-based customers.
We have in fact increased the price in the UK and Europe to account for VAT. We’re a small independent company and the hit of losing 20% from each sale on this side of the pond would have a huge effect on us. I hope you understand.
Best regards,
Joe

Even though the prices still are amazingly ‘friendly’, I was surprised the price for an upgrade increased 50% from €50 to €75. But still, a bargain. Need to get a hold of my wife, who’s in charge of our credit card though
Joe … does this mean the Express version will be discontinued in the near future? I can imagine the development for this little brother somehow having a negative effect on the cashflow … and let’s be honest, the price for the current Pro still is attractive for FW Express users.
We aren’t planning to add any new features to Express in the future, no.

BIG congrats on releasing FW7… I know its a massive undertaking and it shouldn’t be glossed over or dismissed what a massive jump forward this is.
Ive looked at the html/css thats freeway producing and also how the UI works in conjunction with a designers requirements in building responsive sites and personally, I think this is going to be a great success.
Well done Softpress for keeping the software at the vanguard.
I was having a little trouble getting the responsiveness to work in FW7.
It then just struck me that the reason my boxes were not behaving as expected, was that I hadn’t expressed the padding as a percentage for each break-point. As soon as that was done… bingo!

… this is just because you haven’t set your boxes to box-sizing: border-box.
