Freeway and Mobile Me (iDisk)

Hi,

Does anyone know if Apple’s new Mobile Me faciity can accept Freeway Websites or is it just a file storage facility.

Theoretically, it should work the same as .mac did, which accepted Freeway sites. I have a client at http://wayneforster.net which is really a site hosted by .mac now MobileMe.

If you’re uploading to your own MobileMe account, just choose MobileMe
from the Upload dialog pop-up menu. Freeway will fill in your details
from your information stored by the OS.

If you’re uploading to someone else’s iDisk, I’m not sure.

@Scoutdesign:
Last week I had an email-“conversation” with the MobileMe helpdesk.

a. You can still upload your Freeway sites to the sites-folder on your iDisk as before. (I tested and it still works as before) the webadress will be: homepage.mac.com/username/
However you cannot forward your own domain name anymore.

b. You can upload your Freeway sites to the Web/Sites folder on your iDisk. The webadress will be: web.mac.com/username/
In this case you also will be able to forward your own domain name.

In both situtation you can create your own subdirectories within the directories I mentioned.

I noticed that uploading can, in both cases, be done (as before) using the uploadfacility from Freeway, However when you upload to “MobileMe” (so to the Web/Sites directory) the Freeway dialogue will still mention you uploaded to .Mac

I am in the proces of transferring 6 sites to the iDisk web directory. So far no problems in using MobileMe

Are you using local (or syncing) copy of your iDisk? I can’t for the life of me get Freeway to see the web alias as anything other than unaccessable, so I have to rely on Transmit to sync my files.

@Paul

I am not sure what you mean (must be my lack of English). But this is the procedure I follow:
Freeway->archive->upload → from the pulldownmenu choose .Mac-> choose select and manoeuvre to the folder on your iDisk where you want to upload to, click OK.

When you choose select you will be prompted (in anycase when its the first time, unless you already provided the upload info in the document-settings) to provide your userid and pasword for your iDisk.
It may take a while before the window for accessing iDisk folders will be openened. (same or a bit longer as if you log-in to your iDisk via the Finder)

I either get an error, or I can’t select the Web folder at all. Either way, it’s Transmit or the painfully slow Finder to upload the site for me.

This is what I do:

1 - Choose File>Upload

2 - Select MobileMe (.Mac) in the drop down

3 - Click on Select…

4 >> A filer window will open after some lengthy SPOD action

5 - Choose the iDisk icon named by the MobileMe User Name

6 >> The Web folder is disabled so I can’t use it

I have a locally syncing iDisk (use the Mobile Me system preferences to switch this on) - and the web folder (in Leopard) is an alias to the online folder. In Tiger, it appears as a folder but it does not get synced if I put a file in it.

In the odd times when I have been able to select the Sites folder in the Web folder in Freeway, Freeway’s upload has reverted to File Copy and the upload fails with a File Not Found error.

@ Paul

I don’t have a locally syncing iDisk (not switched on in the .Mac preferences), this might be the difference.
So I also don’t have the alias folder on my system (b.t.w. I am still on 10.4.11 as you’ve probably noticed)

What happens if you disable the local syncing or exclude your (local) web-folder ?

I can imagine the folder being protected when you use iDisk syncing (but I am not sure)

Do you have accesprivilages on the folders, if so can you change them ?

What ought to happen is that when you hit the upload button in the
upload dialog, Freeway should mount your iDisk, and then effectively
copies the files to it. At least, that’s the way it works for me.

The only downside is if, like me, you’re not in the habit of keeping
the iDisk mounted most of the time. You have to remember to unmount it
when you’re finished with it after uploading from Freeway.

If you’re managing several “microsites” on your iDisk, you may well be
better served by an FTP application that fully supports the WebDAV
protocols, such as Transmit. I use Transmit, and it is quick and
painless in use, and has a useful synchronisation/mirror feature.
