Freeway Crashing

Hi,

I have been experiencing a large number of crashes when using freeway lately. I was hoping someone could confirm if they have experienced the same and know how to avoid it happening. I dare say it is something I am doing wrong.

I have owned the product for over a year and have created about 15 web sites with very few crashes.

However, during the creation of my last 2 projects, the program keeps crashing, it is getting to a point where just inserting a HTML box within another or changing the float of a box from right to left causes dreaded spinning wheel followed by the main html box expanding to over 32768 px.

Just inserting a line of text is fast becoming a success story prompting a save.

I know it must be something I am doing as Freeway has been a joy to work with until now.

Any ideas anyone…please !

I have been experiencing a large number of crashes when using freeway lately.

twas this me, i would immediately run the “repair permissions” utility (this is free… always a good thing. is fast, remarkably effective, and reasonably risk-less), and if that did not cure it, then wouldst buy/find a copy of Drive Genius by Prosoft.
DG lets you boot from it’s own disk, check the drive for possible damage, then repair/rebuild your directory, and then defrag (which takes some time, but makes any mac a bit faster).
if it still crashes … then, you gots a problem.

so far, this procedure has been 100% effective on this end.

cheers,
peter v.

Pretty much the only thing I have seen which can crash Freeway reliably are dodgy fonts. Try creating a new user account on your Mac, log in as that user, and make a new document with Freeway. See if it causes any problems. Then look back at the list of fonts enabled on your regular account, try disabling half of the difference and see if the problem repeats. If it doesn’t, then re-enable half of the ones you didn’t re-enable, and keep going, half at a time until you figure out which one or ones are causing the problem.

Does Freeway totally crash (disappear)?

Or as you said makes inflow items overflow making weird things happen to HTML boxes?

Thanks for the responses, the most common problem is for the HTML box to expand to 32768 px. I would estimate that 1 in 5 crashes cause Freeway to close resulting in prompt for me to re-open.

I used Disk Utility to ‘Repair Permissions’ I have to say my Mac now seems to have picked up a bit of speed.
I then looked at any fonts I have added to the system. I had only added 6 fonts to the system. I deleted 5 and switched off the other. The web site uses Verdana.

I shut down the machine, rebooted, opened Freeway and bang, exact same problem still there.

I’m wondering if it’s my method of creating the web site?

I drew a HTML box on the page (rather than double clicking and inserting). I then double click into this first box and insert all the boxes I need for the layout of the page. Set floats and clears as I go. I have used this method for some larger web sites with very few problems.

I’m sure it has to be something in this particular file, as I just opened another older web site file, added boxes, changed floats and clears at will without a problem !

I do see you’ve got a div (HTML box) with the name “ring” that is
throwing the page to scroll sideways.

Its positioned 872px to the left hand margin

<div id="ring" style="position: absolute; left: 872px; top: 217px;
width: 513px; height: 650px; z-index: 1;">

Hi David,

I have just deleted that HTML box, published and saved the site. I tried to enter a new HTML within another, spinning wheel, box extended to 32768px

Thanks for the response though,

Neil

Update to 5.4.3 in case there are any bug fixes in it for 5.4.2

Mr DeltaDave sir,

I am most grateful. I have just upgraded, and have worked on my web site for 5 minutes without a crash.

I cannot explain the relief !

Thanks very much to everyone for their time trying to help.

All these updates are done for a reason.

There is the old adage ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ - but in your case it was broke!

Hope this sees the end of your problems.
