Freeway Shop and stock conrol

Hi all,

We are at the early stages of setting up an online shop for a client using Freeway 5 pro/Freeway Shop. It all seems to be going well, but the client asked a killer question this morning:

Is there any way that I can link the online shop directly into their computerised till system in their actual store (which I believe has some kind of stock control system installed on it), so that if a particular item is sold out, it can be immediately reflected online to prevent visitors ordering something that is no longer available?

We would be happy to have some kind of outsourced programmer involved if necessary!

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

There are scripts available like OScommerce (we have this amongst
other shopping cart scripts available in our hosting) with basic stock
control. Which is a halfway house of what your client was wishing.

In OScommerce for example you can set say 16 widgets available for
sale (The client just sets aside 16 widgets in his store for online
sales the rest for store sale - he could easily amend the stock as
required)

Hi David,

That sounds very interesting. My client already has a credit card clearance company he is very happy with. Mal’s e-commerce allows linking into that easily it seems (the paid for version). Would there be restrictions if I were to host my clients site with you? OScommerce seems linked to PayPal.

I can’t seem to get the the Control Panel test drive to load on your site at the moment, because the other features you offer (such as Blogging) all seem like features I could make use of. My client is also keen to have a daily Blog on his site, and if there is some kind of stock-control I could link into his Freeway/Mal’s Shop then this could be just what we are looking for!

Hi Jonathan

I’ve checked the demo control panel and it seems to be loading and my
end (can anyone else check if its working correctly?)

The OSCommerce shopping cart script, that uses any or all card
merchants you wish, not just Paypal.

Regarding the blog, we deliberated long and hard, whether to use the
Freeway blogging actions or not, and finally elected to use Wordpress
because of its huge amount of very useful plug-ins available. And how
it very handily gets you into the search engines and well as informing
the readers. The draw backs, you need to style the blog either by
selecting from the the hundred of templates, or modifying a template
( which will help you learn by the bucket load how CSS works - this
understanding helps you to build better cleaner Freeway sites )

If you want to contact me off Forum (use the form on the site or
direct if you subscribe by email) I can tell you more about using the
shopping cart scripts and blogs etc. and if they could be any help to
you.

David
