Fresh upload at every version update?

I find the fresh upload every time FW sends out an update a bit hard to deal with. I have some pretty hefty sites that take a long time to upload everything and when FW launches a version update it forces me to to a FULL upload of every page.

Is there a way around this?

One of my sites that takes around 1hr to upload because of hi-res downloads seems to upload completely each time even if I only edit 1 item on the page which is a little annoying although it only gets updated once a month.

Ditto !

I found that what makes the full upload routine is the change in the meta tag that FW adds to each page which is the generator tag.

sorry SP but I removed that on my largest site and did not have the same problem for a couple of upgrades.

but the recent 5.2 upgrade forced a complete re-publish and a 1+3/4 hour upload even though I had altered just one page, think it was caused by updates to some of the actions, etc. ( doesn’t help that uk broadband upload speeds are pants ! )

it can be irritating but the upgrades are worth it and I think a small price to pay.

and as to your last q. I don’t know a way round it apart from keeping as many large files as possible on the web server and adding relative links on the FW site to keep the resources folder as small as possible

perhaps a more knowledgeable person on the list may know more ?

Yeah, 5.2 adds the generator tag as well as all the iPhone stuff. Wasn’t there some bug or something with updating where it would republish all the time if you used a “site folder” from a previous version.

I thought the solution was to create a new site folder and change it in your document settings, but still you’d have to publish all over and upload it all again.
