FTP vs Upload

When I used my old software for creating my website, I had the option of uploading a page at a time via Fetch ftp program. If I create the whole website as one multi-page document, how can I upload one page that I may have changed? Or do I have to upload the whole site every time I make a change to one page? If so, then would it be better to create a website where each page is a completely different document and then I can upload it one page at a time?

Karen:

No need to worry! Freeway will only upload those pages that you have
edited. It indicates which pages will be uploaded the next time you
choose to upload, by placing a black dot next to the edited page in
the site palette.

Cheers!

Yep - in Freeway parlance that’s a page marked as ‘dirty’, i.e. with
changes since it was last published. Those pages will be regenerated
the next time you preview/publish/upload.

but say “dirty” in a Joanna Lumley sort of voice, as opposed to a
voice like, say, Jordan’s which might suggest something baser about
the page.

All of which will have zoomed completely over the heads of anyone

Okay, thanks for the info on the black dot. Another question then. I notice when I am working on each page that yes, there is a black dot. Then I “Preview” the page and the black dot goes away…I am only previewing in Freeway so its really not being uploaded and published. So do I have to not preview it before I upload it?

Whether you preview or publish first matters not. Either action will
regenerate the page and all its components. All that the Upload
function has to do is decide if the page is now newer than what’s on
the server, and upload it if it is.

true enough, but, hey isn’t that what YouTube is for…?

And are you saying that Jordan isn’t a world famous personality? She
won’t be pleased

I’ve always thought of Jordan as a country. Somewhere in the Middle
East, isn’t it?

I tend to take no notice whatsoever of Z-list double-J-cup non-entities.

(Apologies for hijacking the thread, Karen.)

Personally, I would LOVE it if FW chould, after an upload is
completed say - in JL’s best “Pats!” voice, “Cheers! Great! Thanks a
lot! Now crack open the champ and caviar, Sweety!”

If Freeway had Growl support for upload notifications that would be
rather more do-able than you guess…

Okay, point taken. Not everyone outside the UK is completely out of
touch with British TV humour or culture [sic].

Now, where were we with the FTP and dirty pages?
