FW5 and Firefox major problems

I have almost finished a web site for somebody and decided to preview. In Firefox none of the links work. In fact the link graphics aren’t even showing. It’s totally dis-functional. It all works in Safari fine but, lets face it Windows users don’t use safari. I have no way of checking it in IE. I am worried now, as I am supposed to be getting it online a.s.a.p.

Please can somebody help me to sort this problem.

Sorry, when I said links I meant ‘Roll-over’ links.

There’s something else happening. Firefox is my primary browser, it’s
what I do my initial preview in. No problems.

Most probably wouldn’t think to use it, but they could if they wanted
to. There is a Vista/XP/2003 version, the latest just a couple of days ago.
I have no way of checking it in IE.
Do you have a beta up? I can take a look in Winduhs, see if anything
sticks out.

I’ve just put it up and it’s obvious that the quicktime movies are a problem with loading. That aside, the links do work but all the mouse over images are missing. In Safari it is very slow loading the page with image roll overs. I have made lots of sites in FW3 and FW4 with no problems. I was so surprised as I assumed the upgrade would be beneficial.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve realized that it is the top roll overs that are causing the pages to load slowly - even the blank pages are slow.

Yes, if you look t Safari’s activity monitor (Window/Activity) you’ll see that there are six PSDs attempting to load. Each is roughly 400Kbs so even on a broadband connection it will take some time to load. Safari, it seems, is happy to render the PSDs using Quicktime but other browsers won’t be so forgiving (as you found out).
Change these for GIFs, JPGs or PNGs and you should be set.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi

Your main problem here is the images that you are using for your over and down states.

FWLoad(“Resources/HOMEover.psd”);
FWLoad(“Resources/HOMEdown.psd”);

They are photoshop .psd files and the browser doesn’t know what to do with them - change them to jpegs and you will be fine.

Your webbanner movie file is also far too big at 5.3Mb for an intro page - it takes an age to load!

Can you not reduce the file size/quality?

Thank you both for your help. I have changed them all to .png and will now attempt to make the movie smaller. The roll overs work fine now. Thanks again. It was a silly oversight on my part. I usually always save my files as jpg. I must have had a silly hour at the time.

Hi Moabs

The other problem that I have with your rollovers is that the over graphics are bigger than the menu bar and stick out the bottom (125 x 50).

That is not strictly true - they are the same size but because you have a black backround to the page and the normal state graphic blends down to black it appears that the over graphic is bigger and as a result it looks like it is bursting out the bottom.

Check your other pages for more psd files.

I found one on the activities page - bottom left rollover

FWLoad(“Resources/%20KidsGroup%20sml%20lt.psd”);

Edit>Resources and have alook at the file types there.

Yes, I see what you are saying - needs changing. I will re-address all these things. I have suggested that I re-disign the whole site. They are impatient to get their site running so want me to get this one up first, and then start working on a new one. I want to learn more about FW5 and use some of the new features. I might even get them to go for white and orange :O)

Thank you for your input. It has helped a lot.
