FW7 Inflow Menu Problem?

I’ve noticed that when using the new Auto-Generate Menu option that Sub-Menus are cut-off if the height of the container is not sufficient to accommodate all links.

Fine, I suppose for standard layout.

But when using the menu with inflow design the size of the container pushes everything down.

Anyway around this?

Try using a height setting of Flexible on your menu container, so it can collapse when the submenu elements are hidden.

Tried that Walt. It collapses to zero because there is nothing in the container. And then show only the top level links.

What is its overflow set to? Also related, is it floated?

If it is floated, then you need to apply the Clearfix Action to it and set its overflow to visible.

Overflow set to Visible. Container not floated I don’t think, just set to Align Center.

Okay! Fixed it. Toying with the options you suggested, I change the overflow to Auto, and the sub-menus appear.

Could you post a link to an example on line where I can fiddle with it in the Web Inspector in Safari?

It’s not online yet, Walt, I’m still converting an old site. But see my solution. Does that explain anything?

I thought it was fixed—now I’m getting mixed results with Overflow settings.

This issue is called clearfix (in this case) and yes - there is an action (actionsforge) for it.

… oh yes, and probably a z-index issue as well.

Thanks all.

Thomas, it’s not a Clearfix issue as I already have that on the page—although that is a useful fix in its place.

Similarly, it’s not a z-index. Although a high z-index was necessary to keep the submenu on top in FW6, it’s not enough to do so with the Auto-Generate Menu in 7. However, I think I have discovered a solution.

The container for the CCS Menu using Auto-Generate Menu must be set to Flexible height. But—as there is no content—this collapses the box. And not even Clearfix will show the sub-menu above adjacent content.

But it you simply put a return in the box then sub-menu now shows (and this also has the benefit of making the menu visible on the working page).

Walt: here is the site, with the menu fixed in accordance with the note above:

Can I just mention that for an index page this one is severely lacking in html text apart from your menu and the quote.

‘It is well worth one’s while to go to a country which can teach us the beauty of the word
FREEDOM and the value of the thing LIBERTY.’

There is none! And that particular quote says nothing about your site.

You are doing your site a severe disservice in the eyes of search engines - that is assuming that you want your site to be found.
