FWP7 flexible

Hi guys, I’m banging my head against a wall with this one, i’ve bought a FW template to reverse engineer, and I’m setting my site up as an exact copy in terms of inline layout, now I’m obviously missing something.

the second body wrap down is suppose to have a background colour, but when i have it set to flexible, it just bunches up around the top of my container!

if anyone could prod me in the right direction that would be lovely, as my head is sore and I’ve spent 4 days figuring it out…

You need to “fix” your cleared elements in some manner, because if you float an element within another element, that removes it from the local layout context as far as its parent is concerned, and so the parent collapses to the size of its non-floated children.

There is an Action called Auto Clearfix that will do this for you (automatically, as the name implies). You can find that Action on ActionsForge, and you just apply it to your page to get the behavior everywhere you have a non-floated element containing floated children.

If you want to be more surgical about this, you can also simply select the element that you want to affect and use the Inspector to set its overflow to hidden. This would allow you to have floated elements peeking out of their parents (if you wanted that for some reason) alongside floated elements contained by their parents.
