Getting CSS 2 & 3 mixed to validate

Does anyone have any bright ideas about how to get pages that use
mainly CSS 2 and a sprinkle of CSS 3 (text shadows mainly) to validate?
If these were IE only properties (like filters) then I’d wrap the CSS
in an IE conditional comment but they apply to Safari, Opera, Chrome
etc.
Ideally I’d sniff the user agent and inject the correct CSS 3 styles
if the browser supported them but that seems a bit like overkill. I’d
also rather like to try and avoid having to rely on JavaScript for
this as well.
I guess I’m looking for a CSS 3 filter or CSS hack that allows me to
hide CSS 3 in a CSS 2 block. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Tim.

Hi Tim
The only way I know is to get something like JQuery to add the styles but as you pointed out it defeats the purpose in using css. You could always place all the CSS3 styles in a separate sheet so its only that one which will fail validation, but I am sure you have thought of that already. I did have a quick look at the css forums and no one has come up with any bright ideas that I can see.

Thanks Max. Joe also mentioned JQuery to me directly and it seems like
the way to go.
I’ll look into this a little further.
Thanks,
Tim.
