Google Counter Confusion

Okay, I get some counter code for Google Analytics. Softpress explains what to do next:

“Adding Google Analytics tracking to your site is now even easier with the introduction of the Google Analytics Action in Freeway 5. Just sign up to the Google Analytics service here. Once you have signed up, copy your code and paste it into the Google Analytics Action palette in Freeway. You can see which pages visitors are looking at, how long they look at them for, the order of pages they look at, where the visitors are located, and much more.”

I add the page action “Google Analytics”, open the actions window and a small “site code” window asking for a code that looks like this: UA-6706401-1, but my code looks like this:

Does that small amount of code do the trick? Even when I paste it in (“UA-6706401-1”), and refresh my webpage five times, it still shows no traffic. I see no space for the large amount of assigned code. Using Freeway Express 5. Please gimme some advice if you got any. Thanks, Marcos

Well when you sign up for GA you should have the option for “their code” or the “legacy” code. What it sounds like with your UA number is a legacy code, so just tick the box in the palette and it should work just as well as the other way.

Remember GA is not able to report in real time, check after like an hour or two and see if anything hit. Also, sometimes GA doesn’t count towards your “hits” if it knows the IP you’re using is the same IP you signed up for the account with, so it doesn’t track local views and give you a false sense of hope.

Thank you. Had ticked the legacy box before bedtime and the GA site did show hits this morning so it seems to be working. BTW, heretofore, I had been using StatCounter and had been pleased with it, but could not figure out how to get their code to work with Freestyle. Any advice on how to get the StatCounter code in place? Does it go in an HTML markup box? Then what. Thank you very much, Marcos
