Google map marker questions

Hi,

Is it possible to do the following with the Google map action:

  1. To force line breaks in the Marker Text?
  2. To style the text size and colour?

Many thanks,

Richard

If you have Pro you can use the Google Maps Marker Action. Draw a
layer item and apply the Action to it and it will become you marker
text.

If you’re on Express then you have to make do with just choosing the
font I’m afraid.

Hope that helps.

Hi Joe,

I am using pro and although I can set the font there appears to be no way to set the font colour or size in the action. Also I wish to insert a line by line address address into the marker bubble, but the action doesn’t allow the creation of line breaks by entering return. That is why I asked if there is another way to apply this extra styling to the marker. I have tried setting up a separate style and applying it to the layer item that has the action applied to it but this doesn’t work.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Take a look here:

http://users.softpress.com/joe/maps/

Download and have a look at the file. I applied the Google Maps Marker
Action to layer item containing my text, this is then used instead of
the text entered in the Google Maps Action.

Hope this helps.

It’s built into Freeway 5, if you have the Google Maps Action then you
have the Marker Action too. It can only be applied to layer items
though so make sure you’re not trying to apply it to a blue (table
based) item.

I had a go at this without success.

Is there any special order that the action(s) should be applied.

I had used the Map Action previously and had input some marker text in the Action pane and then when I saw this post I thought I would like my text styled so I added The Marker action but it doesn’t work for me.

Any tips.

Hi Dave,

If you download Joe’s example you will see he has added the marker action to a separately styled layer item. I initially applied it to the item which had the Google map action applied to it and after discovering it didn’t work realised that Joe had applied it to a separate layer item which contained the styled text. I also removed any input I had entered in the Google map action text marker box.

Hi Richard

Yes I had a look at Joe’s example and that is what I did - applied it to a separately styled layer item. His being on the pasteboard.

I will try again with a new page and see if it will work this time.

OK Joe - I think that I have the problem tracked down.

On this page http://www.deltadzine.net/test/maptest.html I have Joe’s example - only problem is that the Google Map doesn’t display.

That is until the output is set to more efficient. Here is the code from the page:

		marker.openInfoWindowHtml("<div style=\"width: 264px; padding-right: 10px; font-size:12px\"><p><span class=\"style52\">Softpress Systems Ltd‎.</span></p>
<p class=\"style55\">25 Hanborough Business Pk<br/>Long Hanborough, Witney, Oxfordshire, OX29 8LH<br/>01993 882588</p>
<p class=\"style56 f-lp\"><a href=\"http://www.softpress.com/\"><span class=\"style22\">softpress.com‎</span></a></p>
</div>");

Now if I knock the closing div up to the line before it works (which is what more efficient would do!)

Bear in mind that if you look at this on the Web Forum not all / slashes are shown. Walter?

So Joe - is it a bug?

I’d say so. The line returns are terminating the JavaScript prematurely causing
the function to fail.

Thanks Delta, it is indeed a bug. For the moment, turning the Line
Feeds option to Unix in the Document Setup dialog will fix the problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes - Changing the Line Feeds to Unix has done the trick.

But looking forward to the update as that is something that most folks wont do as a matter of course as the default is: Macintosh

Thanks Joe for confirming that it was not just the way I was implementing the action.

No problem. The default is actually Unix but most people turn it on to
Macintosh on their first custom document and Freeway remembers
