I hope you’re not trying to copy it from a web page! Remember, that’s
not how things work…

Here’s a step-by-step guide for making a Google map in Freeway b
Public Beta, somethig I sent in a different thread, in case you need
it:

First, open the Inspector palette and make sure that the page you’re
using isn’t set to XHTML Strict. Google Maps and other things that
use the same ‘insert into page’ process can’t work with this
standard’s restrictions. Once this has been checked…

Either choose Item > Actions > Google Map, or press on the Actions
tool icon and pick Google Maps and draw out a box on the page.

Make sure the box is at lease 200 pixels wide and tall.

  1. Open the Actions palette (choose Window > Actions, or command-option-A)

When you have your Google Maps box selected you should see relevant
controls in the Actions palette. Click the Sign Up For Key button and
go through Google’s process for acquiring a Google Maps key for your
domain.

Copy the key text. DON’T try to copy the whole multi-line pile of
code below this, just use the long but single line ‘key’ code.

Back in Freeway, paste the key code into the Site Key text field in
the Actions palette.

Type a zip/post code, street address or town name (with further
identification if necessary; there are many Fairviews, for example,
but only one Fairview, NC).

Use the Actions palette’s Google Maps controls to customise things.

Hi Brian,

If you are using the beta of Freeway 5 then you can just use the
Google Maps Action to make a new one in a few clicks, otherwise you
will need to take all the code from your existing site and paste it
into all the right places in Freeway. These would usually be in the
Page>HTML Markup dialog selecting the point in your HTML you want the
code to go, and the Insert>Markup Item section to paste the code into
the body tag.

I can’t say what you need and where you need to paste it since you
haven’t provided us with a link to your site.

You can also use this guide to get one set up from scratch in Freeway
4: http://www.softpress.com/kb/article.php?id=804.

Well I think Keith had it pretty much spot on in his earlier post:

Is there a part of this that is not that clear?

If so ask and we will try and help.

You can also use Walter’s nifty geocode generator to give you the geocode to use rather than an address or post/zip code.

So you want a dealer list that when you click on the dealer name it takes you to a map with the dealer location marked on it?

What about a map of the area that when you rollover the dealer name a marker appears on the map?

You could have different maps for different areas.

If you can explain in a bit more detail exactly what you are trying to do we will try and help.

Is this the same problem that you had a couple of months ago that Walter offered suggestions for?

i suppose so :-{
problem is i have been ill for quit some time, hospital anso… nothing nice. i had some nice contact with Tim abouth an action, but have not heard from him since. time of delivery (lol) is comming near and i have nothing to show.
That what Walter suggested, is so much over my head…!!!

My client want’s here distributers to be located, so people who want to buy here products could enter ( exampel ) their adres and find the nearest dealer.

i have no knowledge of php what’s so ever, and to be honest, i know that there are a lot of sites and books abouth it, but i just don’t get it. That was in the beginning my joy of finding Freeway. Just make a beautifull visual site and let the program do that what i’m to stupid for.
ok, enough whining and sobbing.

My question; can one put more adresses on a google map?? ( and iff so, hooowwwwwwww.)

How many distributors does the client have and over what area.

There may be an easier way to do it without using php etc.

There is probably a Google Map “mashup” possible here, but I’ve never
tried that.

I’ve only done the PHP method, which is basically a big hairy SQL
query that does the math related to the circumference of the earth to
calculate the surface distance between two lat/long points on the globe.

If you have a database of postal codes that includes the latitude and
longitude, I can share the code with you. It looks scarier than it
really is, mostly because you can just copy and paste and try not to
think too deeply about it. I found the equation on Google, since I
never made it past high school Geometry.

Hmmmm! I think 200 takes it in to the realm of a database and php I’m afraid.

The only other thing that I can suggest is that you break that 200 down into areas - say 20 areas based around major towns and cities.

You then could let the potential customer pick a city or town closest to them from your list of 20.

This would then take you to the next page where there would be a list of the 10 or so distributors and a map of the area around the chosen town/city.

Rolling over/or clicking the distributors name would show the location of that distributor on the map. There may be some distributors that might appear on more than one map but I don’t think that should be a problem.
