Google Maps Action

Has anything changed at Google to cause a problem with the Google Maps
Action in the last few weeks?

I had created a site after a bit of a false start, not realising the
difference between coordinates in ’ & " and decimal, once I’d got that fixed
it was all fine.

However, in the mean time I’ve now put the site up live, but the original
coordinates now point to a location about 120 km to the E.

I’ve taken the coordinates for a location close to the Gambia river from
http://mapmaker.donkeymagic.co.uk/ as suggested and plugged them into the
action. But they are way off.

You can look at the map here:

http://www.farasuto.org/GoogleMap/

I¹ve fiddled with the coordinates in the Action to try to locate the correct
point, but it seems to be acting very strangely, in that if I change the
longitude it not only jumps vertically, but horizontally too. Having said
that, if I locate somewhere in the UK, it works perfectly?

Hi Peter,

The Action was updated in the most recent build but I’m pretty sure
the coordinates weren’t touched. What coordinates are you entering?

Ok, there’s a bug. I’ll get a fix ASAP and post it on the KB. In the
meantime, hang tight until then or revert to 5.3.1.

Sorry 'bout that.

Due to the fact that this can break existing sites I fast tracked this
and have provided the fixed version here:

http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/165/Problems+with+Google+Maps+in+5.3.2

Hope this helps and sorry for the inconvenience,

Hey Joe, that’s fine as long as it’s not me!

What’s your timescale? If it’s more than a few days, where can I get the
reversion to 5.3.1?

What other software company would respond so fast to a user problem?

Hi Joe,

I’ve unpacked the .zip file but the resulting action is dated 23 February,
can this be correct??

Also where should the Action reside?

I have actions in both the Freeway package and also in my
~users/peter/Library/Application Support/Freeway 5/Actions/General

Best wishes Peter

Hi Peter,

Just install it as normal. Ignore the date, the file I changed is
buried in the bundle.

Hi Peter

I also downloaded it and yes it does say 23-2-09 but if you stick it in HD>Library>Application Support>Freeway 5>Actions it will be available to all users and when you launch FW it will tell you that there are duplicate actions and the older ones will be disabled.

Core actions like these are actually stored within the FW package itself - Ctrl-Click the FW application and Show Package Contents>Contents>Shared Support>Actions>Fast and you will find it in there.

Update, a newer version of the Action is now available at the same
place. Someone pointed out it was still broken in a certain situation
(with a marker on the page).

Regards,

Joe

Yea I sussed that, but the one in there is dates 27 Feb even after
installing the new!??

Most of my actions are under my user folder, are you suggestion moving them
to the top level Libraray on and removing them from the user/Library ??

It is purely a matter of personal preference - I have them in the top level so all actions are available to all users even though most of the time it is just me! But if you do have them top level then no need to have them in user.

I presume you are referring to the one in Contents>Shared Support>Actions>Fast - which will remain there unless you trash it but will be superseded by the newer version in a user/Library. That is what Joe was referring to about this being sorted in the next release. The actions in there will be replaced by the FW update.

Right, re-downloaded the Action again, installed in FW[6265],

Removed map marker, refreshed the map, correct location, put the marker back
still correct location. Fixed.

Sorry, but the Zoom selector is broken. With and without the marker.
