Google results

Hi,

I have produced a website for me and my old school chums. Not great but it’s a start!

If in google search i type brj1968 it’s top of the list but the ‘heading’ is “EmpLogoashy”. Which must relate to something but what? Would like to change it to something more relevant.

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Joe

Go through your site a page at a time in Freeway, and look carefully
at the text you see in the Title field of the Inspector. That’s the
text that will appear in the browser’s window, top center, and that’s
the content of the Title tag, which is a Very Big Deal to search
engines. I would give your titles some structure, so that they convey
that each page is a part of a larger whole.

  • Vintage Photographs | Blessed Robert Johnson, Class of 1968
  • Guest Book | Blessed Robert Johnson, Class of 1968
  • Contact Us | Blessed Robert Johnson, Class of 1968

Realize that most people will “parachute in” to your site through
Google, and they won’t have any idea where they are, or notice what
the context is from within Google’s results page.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for the very quick reply. I just assumed that the name in the title was the name of the ‘page’ so Events would just be 'Events". However from your kind reply I think i now understand a little how google works - and of course they would look at the big picture - where I would just look at the site.

I have some modifications to do!

Again - many thanks

Joe.

You might want to read Keith Martin’s excellent tutorial “BeFound” at http://thehelpful.com for more about how Google (and other bots) see your pages and site.
