Google verification

Hi - I have searched but I’m afraid I need more guidance, I have the Google meta tag which should be pasted in the head and before the body, when I go to page/meta tags do I just put the name in (verify-v1) and the into the ‘Value’ box, if I do I get an error from google.

If I paste it into html mark up (‘insert before body’) I get an error message as well.

Any advice please Regards Roger

Try insert Before /BODY. They want you to insert this within the BODY, and what you were doing was putting it outside.

Ok on this note… I am thinking a few things about my website…

  1. I want it searchable within google… so I have made the text areas
    HTML.
  2. ALso there are many companies I am finding with the same name
    popping up in google…

So how do I make my company more easily searchable above the rest?
ALso I am considering a name change looking at all the gr designs out
there…

so I turn to you guys for your opinions about these questions and
anything else you want to mention

thank you in advance

To make things easier you should make the links to the site you built
open up in a new window so you don’t go away from your own site.

In the Hyperlink window where you log the URL of the link these would
be ‘external’ links. Then at the bottom of the window is the field
‘Target’, choose ‘-blank’ for the link to open in new browser window.

Go to Freeway Help or in the reference manual look up ‘Target’ and it
will explain the different directions for links. I always forget and
have to look it up!

I have done things in html like recommended but still not coming up

How long has your site been up there? Bear in mind it can take a long time before Google finds and indexes you - it doesn’t happen overnight.

Metatags are not as important as they were but you dont have any!

Add keywords and a site description. More relevant text. Get inward links from other sites.

Name your pages along the line of Welcome to GR Designs Marketing and Web Design

About GR Designs Marketing and Web Design etc etc.

Read Keith’s article at Be Found - design findable web sites that get ranked with the best for lots more.

Good luck - it takes time.

Hi Julie,
Sites can take time to get added to search engines but here is my checklist (off
of the top of my head);

  1. Make sure the site code validates (http://validator.w3.org/)
  2. Submit the site URL to Google (http://www.google.com/addurl/)
  3. Add the site to the Open Directory Project (http://www.dmoz.org/)
  4. Make your page titles descriptive. The home page title is simply ‘Welcome’ at
present. Try something along the lines of ‘GR Designs - enabling effective
communications through design’. Get your keywords in the title.
  5. Make sure your pages use as much HTML text as possible.
  6. Add meaningful alt data.
  7. Keep the content fresh and up to date.
    8 Repeat from step 1.
    Regards,
    Tim.

Things to consider:

One of the most important things to do is to make sure any text on a page is specific to what is displayed on the page. In other words the text must be relative to the subject.

Google uses styling to rate what is most important on a page. Google sees H1 styled text as being more important than H2, H3, etc. Google will rate your page heavily on these styles.

Unrelated to the design of the pages, Google likes outside links that direct browsers to your pages. The more the better.

Excellent suggestion. The more “related” descriptive text the better.
