Gramatical symbols?

Does Freeway Pro and most web browsers properly render grammatical symbols, such as apostrophes, single and double quote marks, en and em dashes, etc.?

If so, where can I find Mac OS X key commands for creating these symbols?

If you type them into the Freeway design view, then they will either be rendered in UTF-8 Unicode, and any reasonably modern browser will show them correctly, or they will be converted into HTML entities, and any browser back to the stone age will show them correctly.

Here’s a brief list of the shortcuts I know off the top of my head:

  • Left single quote: Option + Right Square Bracket
  • Right single quote (or proper apostrophe): Shift + Option + Right Brace
  • Left double quote: Option + Left Square Bracket
  • Right double quote: Shift + Option + Left Square Bracket
  • En dash: Option + Hyphen
  • Em dash: Shift + Option + Hyphen
  • Plus/Minus: Shift + Option + Plus sign
  • Does not Equal: Option + Equals sign
  • Registered Trademark: Option + R
  • Copyright: Option + G
  • Trademark: Option + 2

There’s lots more, and if you click on the little country flag in your menu bar (assuming you have enabled that menu in the International pane of the System Preferences) you can pull down to Keyboard Viewer, which will show you all the hidden characters in your current keyboard. Hold down the Option key, and all the keycaps on the keyboard will change, add Shift, and you’ll see more. Plus there are also the combination characters: type Option + N, and you’ll see all the letters that can take a tilde light up in yellow to show that if you press, for example Option + N and then n, you’ll get ñ, so you can properly spell Año Nuevo.
