Graphic rollover with inline construction

Is it advisable to use graphic rollovers in a site being built using inline construction with FW Pro 6? I’m building a site that they want the font in the menu bar to match the font on their logo. That is a font customized in Photoshop so I have to use graphic items in the menu bar. Regular rollovers with the text changing color seem to work fine. I have one menu item that has three items in the submenu. When it drops down it goes behind the layer below and the submenu isn’t visible. I’ve tried changing the z-index of the html item that the graphic is in but that didn’t help. Is there a better option for using graphic rollovers in this situation?

You may need to change the z-index of other items too. Post a link and we can tell you which.

However if you are using Graphic Text in a CSS Menu (unsupported) you may have to rethink this.

Thanks Dave. I changed the z-index on the other items and it works just fine.

I finished the site that I had this question on and now have another question. If you go to the site and hover over “media” you will see a sub-menu drop down. Is there a way to add graphic rollovers to the submenu? I’ve tried grouping, inserting a graphic item, combining graphics, the combine graphics box unchecked and probably a few others without being able to get it to work.

To make an inline graphical rollover, you place an inline graphic, apply the Rollover Action to it, then in the Actions palette click on the Parameters header. Use the Mouseover picker to choose the “over” version of your graphic (which must be saved to your disk somewhere). Long ago, this was the only way this Action worked. The “stack and group” methodology came in version 2.

As at http://www.deltadesign.co/fw_examples/fwactions/rollover.html

The example isn’t inline but the principle of rollover creation is the same.
