Have Host Down Again

Just got up and Have Host email and server down again. This happened to me yesterday afternoon as well.

Anyone else?

There have been a few threads like this lately. However, I’ve not noticed anything for a bit. I don’t check my web sites much (I know what’s on 'em already!) but my email gets checked regularly and I’ve not seen any issues.

Looking at these time stamps, could that be part of it? Maybe at that hour early in the AM, they’re working on the servers (remember they’re on the east coast of the U.S. so over night there is early AM for you in the U.K.). That doesn’t explain when it was down “yesterday afternoon” though.

Any outage that lasts too long should be reported to James, probably best through the zendesk account.

Hello!
I looked at this as well, as Joe mentioned - the times seem to be the same. The server starts backing up at 3 am EST. Which, looking back at previous emails from EU & AU clients, thus is the time that all issues were starting to occur! This morning I requested that backups be done starting at 11am EST. Please let me know via Zendesk as I would like to ensure that I get this as right as possible, knowing no matter when - this will affect someone somewhere. Just looking for least irritating time, yes?

Thanks Joe. I appreciate what you are saying. Due to the time difference for us in the UK, posting on here is a quick reference point to get an immediate sit rep. But I am conscious of the frequent Have Host references. James is a decent guy, but occasionally it can take a while to get a response as he’s obviously engaged elsewhere sometimes, that’s when I check here.

I understand Kryten. I was just saying that if the outage lasts longer than a bit, it should be reported.

OTOH, keeping James informed helps, too. See his previous post. Maybe there’s a good time for this, or if everyone knew that it would be at a certain time, that would make it easier.

James, why does backing up the server take it offline? I don’t think I’ve heard of that. Of course, I’m glad the backups are being done.

I don’t think the server is taken offline. Just that during this time, the resources are lower than normal. So if resources are low and every EU client comes on board looking for access - then things may be slower to reach and or cause certain services to throw back connection timeout errors. This is why I have asked for the backup to come in to 11am EST as this should allow time for backup to complete and not affect my EU clients as much.

Is Have Host down again for anyone else? I can’t access my sites, server or email. I tried Joe’s site as well and that’s not working.

I am in the process of moving all my sites to another host and wondered if that had something to do with it?

It seems to be very intermittent for me. Working one minute, then down for a while, the up again. A bit inconvenient.

I reported an outage yesterday around noon my time (CDT) or so, then it was fine a while later.

This morning when I got up (6 AM) it wasn’t working. I was hoping it would be back when I returned from my walk but no luck. When I saw it was down again I did report it via havehost.zendesk.com as an additional comment to my report from yesterday.

Sigh.

Server should be up - I am now waiting for the reply from techs to indicate what the issue was and how we will rectify it.

UPDATE:
One of my Resellers’ Accounts was hacked and the techs have shut down the email address that was affected as it was being used to send out SPAM - so much in fact, that it incapacitated the server. The techs at the data center will continue to monitor the situation. I thank you all for your understanding and patience.
