Have-Host server down?

Does anyone who uses Have-Host have problems accessing their sites as of 1800 UK time?

Can’t access mine or the main server and not received any replies to support tickets for a few days.

Not sure what to do if I can’t access their website.

A couple of things to try;
James’ contact details from the whois lookup;

Wilkinson, James
Have Host
1120 Chemin des Patriotes

Canada
(450) 742-0971 Fax –

It appears that the server is run by an ISP called HostDime. Their
contact details are;

   OrgName:    HostDime.com, Inc.

For more information try the whois tool at;

I hope this helps.

My Have-host sites seem to be OK and I can still log into Cpanel.

For peace of mind it is worth setting up a notification service for
your sites (or those of your client). The only thing worse than
telling a client that their site is offline is them telling you!
I used to use a Mac application called Whistle Blower from James
Sentman (http://www.sentman.com/Software.html) but sadly it isn’t
being developed anymore. What I use now is a web based tool that
offers a similar experience. It’s called “Are my sites up?” and it
bugs my servers a couple of dozen times a day so that clients don’t
bug me! :slight_smile:
In the interests of complete transparency I’m an affiliate of theirs
and I will get a modest kick back if you sign for one of their paid
accounts up using the link below;

Thanks Tim for that link - I have been using a free service from internetseer.com but it only offers 1 site free and while I had all my sites on 1 server that was fine.

Now that they are spread over a few providers the free offering from aremysitesup.com for 5 sites is just what I need. Sorry if you aren’t going to get any kickback (especially considering your current circumstances) but if they are good I will upgrade to a paid account later.

The affiliate scheme isn’t going to make me rich any day soon but
since I’d be recommending it on the links page at FreewayActions.com
anyway it seemed like a good idea to sign up. I did consider creating
my own web application to do site checking as a side project but
decided that it would have to run on a server that I’d want to check
anyway so started scouting around for an off the shelf offering. I
like the look of the application Roger suggested (Simon) but don’t
like the idea of having a machine on all of the time just to do the
polling. Now if I could do this with an iPhone application… mmm, now
there’s an idea. :wink:
All the best,
Tim.

Dont know what more it does coz of course you can get your email notifications sent to your iPhone anyway.

Hello!

Thanks to Joe Muscara for letting me know about the discussions going on here… I’ve updated the email address I had on this forum to one that I actually pick-up - Dzyn Lab is no longer and I’ve stopped regularly checking emails for it…

To answer regarding the downtime on the server… An update was needed to be done to the server. The issue is now resolved and all is working as it should be.

My Support and Billing system has not been working correctly either - tickets not being sent through to me and invoices not being set out - so I am in process of fixing and upgrading this as well. There will be no downtime experienced for this upgrade.

I am also looking at a service that will allow you to login and view the status of your server via an online service I’m looking at. This will allow you to use your iPhones to access this as well - not sure if a Dashboard Widget is available yet but a webpage for sure. I’ll have more info soon.

My apologies for the interruption to your services and I thank you for your patience.

Cheers!
James

In which case a Dashboard Widget could be made from a web snippet. :slight_smile:

Oh, right! I’m just not sure if the system would allow “remote” access
like that - though I will definitely keep that in mind. Thanks Keith!

Hi James

You said:

If this was a planned update it would have been nice if we could have been informed that it was going to happen and not be caught unawares.

I, like many others, got a few calls on Friday pm and I would rather have been prepared. As it was it was close to the end of the working day when folk check mail before going home for the W/E - so all I could do was assure them that it would be sorted ASAP.

Point taken… I should have asked if this would happen and apologize
for not doing so - as you correctly say - fore-warned is better than
not at all.
