Help getting started

Downloaded the free trial of Express 5 today. Decided to work along with the tutorial to get the feel of it. I did not get too far. It is supposed taking me through each step of creating the first page. But it appears something is missing.

The problem:

When going through process of selecting a “background image” or and “picture graphic” I click on “select” as instructed, takes me to documents, then tutorial1, then media. There is nothing in media to select.

I decided to try and use an image from my photo library, but iphoto will not highlight.

I am stumped.

H Create
have you made sure the images you are trying to use are web friendly (gif, jpg or png)
max as they need to ready to use if they are intended for a background image.

Well, since I am just following the Tutorial. (not really creating anything of my own) I assumed that whatever the guide is directing me to should be there and web friendly.

For example the tutorial instructions are to design a page for "Murice Crowley. (Never met the guy) So I assume the images I am being directed too retrieve should be there. There are pictures in the Tutorial of what they should like in each step in “Muarice’s” page.

The background image should be part of the program as it is nothing more than the look of the page, tiles, texture, et.

The graphic was something I assumed had already been added in the right place as part of the process of learning.

Note that “Import from iPhoto” has been broken under Leopard since version 5.0 (Softpress is aware of the issue).

Um, well, it’s working for me (Freeway 5.2.0, iPhoto 6.0.6, OS X
10.5.4).

May be an issue with certain versions of iPhoto…

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies. The video link supplied by Joe was very helpful.

I am able to import from my iphoto now. Not sure why all of sudden what I did repeatedly with no result is now working. As far as retrieving the other graphic in the practice lesson it’s just not in the Express version I downloaded. I am going to move on and put some of my own text and graphics in a document folder and work from there.

I suggest going through all the tutorials you can find, especially the Freeway Moments. But make sure you actually do every step along the way on your own and get it to work. Most of the stuff looks pretty easy, but when you actually do it on your own you’ll find out all kinds of ways that you can make mistakes.

Also, go through these forums and search for questions related to the specific topics in the tutorials. You’ll find almost every problem or question you have already solved. People on every forum in the world just post questions that have already been answered before. You’ll get more responses too if you post something that hasn’t been discussed.

By the way, I’ve been taking this approach the last few months and have really learned a whole lot about FW and web design in general.

I just had a look and there is definitely a zip file on the disk image
of the Express Trial called Tutorial Media.zip that contains all the
files you need. It’s inside the Documentation folder.
