help with layout in FW5

Im not a novice but I just cant get my head around the structure in FW5. I have rebuilt the front page on one of my sites in what I thought was a FW5 way everything is in boxes and not tables.
I just cant get it to do what I want. The page in question is here http://www.vintagelcd.com If anyone has a few spare moments to talk me through what im doing wrong id very much appreciate it. The main problem is the central column and the extra space that is being added.

many thanks

Hi Adam,

… and what do you want this center column to do? Or could you describe me a bit more detailed what you want to have?

Hi Thomas
Its difficult to explain but I think I can show better with a freeway screenshot. http://www.ummedia.com/VIEW/screen1.jpg if you notice the centre column everything is tight and set to the correct sizes and how it should look like. Inside the markup items is some EE code but nothing that would mess up the page, most of the extra space comes before the markup anyway.

Thank you for your help

you mean the “stair” between the middle upper “latest arrivals” and the red box following? That really seems to be goofy. I would try to make both layer and reup. Second poss. would be to make (if possible) your latest arrivals graphic longer just to cover to whole middle right area.

And check your image settings (it`s artefacting a bit too strange in some graphics).

The stair is still there, it may have something to do woth the table to the left hand side but I dont see how. also the big gap between the tables shouldnt be there.

thanks for your help

but the stair as I see is gone now and looks fine, isn`t it?

Concerning your table, I can only guess (cause I can`t read code like all the other experts). But I think it has maybe to do with the positioning of each image within the cells. For example:

Manufacturers: Pos in the cell: Upper
Categories and watch maybe center
Contact us maybe down.

and maybe the tablecell have some border one 1 px, the other 2 px. Well thats what Id to try out.

… and Adam - by the way just a sidestep:

by “investigating” your layout, I think that it would or could be ideal for a boxmodel. I long hesitated to build one, but after checking the pros and cons, I now make all layout as dynamic content oriented sites.

My latest beta (under construction) of my site if you`re interested (boxmodel+webyep):

http://www.kimmich-dm.de/beta/index.php

Building one is really tricky, but the advantage of adding content (on the left another advertise or on the right side another watch model) is in an dynamic layout much more comfortable than in an static shell. Even graphic oriented things can be done.

But just a sidestep as mentioned.

I manged to sort some of the problems out Thomas by using crowbar this I think removed some

marks which may have been causing the space between the tables.
Just the left hand column which seems to have loads of extra space for no reason.
Also I am having no luck setting my role over colour for individual items just the whole page(right hand column)

I’m sorry I don’t know what a boxmodel is.

thank you for your time
