How to describe this, but is is basic I think: I am working on a website that wil have different pages with different lenghts. On the left and right side I would like a element hat grows with the page - depending on the amount of text. It must be basic, however, I have never done this before. Have a look at www.youngfocus.nl.test and click on one of the three links inder the pictures (its is in Dutch ;-). You’ll see yellow elements on the left and right which I would like to see ‘grow’ as the text expands.
Hi Paul
This can be done with a background image that is set to tile vertically
What you create in Photoshop or similar is a graphic file the width of your page with a section of yellow 150px wide then a space of 675px followed by another 150px yellow. (Approx sizes measured from your page - adjust to suit.)
Make this a gif file approx 20px high - there is an optimum height for this that was discussed recently but I cant remember exactly what it was.
In the inspector for your page, with nothing selected, click on the paintbrush icon and choose the file you made in Pshop under Image: select
Only tile this image vertically and horizontally center and uncheck scroll
You will of course have to remove the existing yellow striped sections from your page.
Paul,
I see that you use all graphic text on your site, this will be a problem with Google etc reading the content of the site
On the news page you use some html text but it expands over your footer - The pages needs a bit of flexibility to achieve what you’re after. It is much better explained in Dan’s tutorial using FW box model.
Hi Marcel. Yes, indeed, the old website doesn’t have much html. Although it will be better on the new one, I still would like to see the teaching.
Thanks Dave. Yes… see… it is basic… indeed, that would do the trick. Since it doesn’t have a whole page background design I didn’t think of just leaving it white in between. It is so simple sometimes…
