How does Apple do this?

On Apple’s Mac and PC ads page, they have movies that pop up immediately and play. They are on the same page and everything loads so quickly. Plus they have multiple sizes to choose from.

It almost seems like target show/hide layer, but there would be a ton of very large files. I also am guessing they are streaming the videos.

Thanks

This layout is essentially a very simple Lightbox, where each
thumbnail is a graphic text box showing the size and format of the
movie that will load when you click it. Apple has tweaked it to work
the way they want, and refined it to work correctly with the QuickTime
plugin in all situations. The movies start playing as soon as they
load because that’s the way they have coded the movies (and because
you have a very studly network connection). The only thing that pre-
loads is the JavaScript functions to drive the lightbox behavior. One
of the movies is loaded into the player on the fly, in response to a
click by the visitor.
