How to delay home page from loading until ready?

I’m using Freeway Pro.

I’d like my home page not to load until it’s all ready to do so.

If you look at my page: www.resonate.la. First the green things and the welcome button appear and then, a few moments later, the slide show starts.

How can I make it so nothing appears until it’s ALL ready to appear at the same time?

I think that you should be looking at this slightly differently.

What I think would be better would be some HTML content (of which there is none at the moment) so that the visitor can read that and then they wont be concerned about the delay in your images loading.

I would go so far as to say that this slideshow shouldn’t really be on your index page at all and that you should have more of an introduction to your site.

Because of this lack of HTML you will also suffer from poor SEO

I used to have a “bookmark” page, that was simply a page with our company name…it held the “Welcome” button, which would lead to the slide show.

I was concerned about giving people too many clicks to get anywhere…thinking that showing the place right from the get-go was a better idea.

But I could be grossly wrong!

That is referred to as a Splash Page - but they are frowned upon these days.

Better to go straight into some meaningful content.

At the moment all the visitor sees is your slideshow - no explanation. This could be an interior designer’s site!

SEO - Search Engine Optimisation - making sure that Google can find you.

Dave, does the information contained on an “Index” page contain more importance in terms of “Google searches”?

Meaning, if our name, Resonate Music and Sound appears elsewhere on our site, would that show up on a Google search even though it’s not on our Index page?

SEO isn’t just about your homepage. Every page on your website should be targeting a keyword or phrase and should be fully optimised to achieve this.

So that means you need good content throughout your site - graphic heavy, HTML light pages will suffer.

But with all the heavy scripts these days (Google, Facebook etc) it would be great if we could get some kind of influence in Freeway to make them loading after all the other content so the visual part will be there first.

You could use js to hide the entire page for a specified time while the DOM loads then have it appear as one piece in some fashion. It’s one way to fake the result you want.
