How to do a gradient transparency

As usual, the Freeway Reference Guide is hopeless on this. It simply says to use the advanced face action.

I have a black box that i want to be transparent on one end.
No matter what I do, I cannot get it do to anything. Everything seems to be controlled by the transparency slider on the color selector in Inspector. That only controls the transparency of the whole box, not allowing me control over a portion of the box.

Sigh…any help?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you also need to use the Fill Master action.

Try this (make sure you have the Actions palette open):

  1. Change the box fill colour to None using the Inspector.
  2. Apply the Fill Master action to the box.
  3. Set the Shape to Rectangle, Fill to Linear, First to Black and
Second to None. Leave the other settings for now.
  4. Apply the Advanced Fade action to the box.

Hopefully, you should see the box fade to transparent. You can play
with the various controls in both actions to see what they do.

Let us know if that works for you. If not, shout out again and we’ll
see if we can sort it out for you.

Cheers

Heather

Nver mind. Figured it out (no thanks to the Reference Guide!).

I have to use Fill Master to set the color for the object, then use Advance Fade. I was filling the color with the normal fill selection on the Inspector.

I think our notes passed in mid-air. What you suggested was exactly what I finally figured out. Sure wish the Reference Guide would say these things.

Thanks for helping!

I don’t have my copy to hand, but I’m a little surprised it doesn’t.
Then again, I think it only outlines what each action does, rather
than how they should work in concert.

Glad you got it sorted in the end, though.

I’ve been lurking. My personal circumstances have changed quite a bit,
and I’m not as active in the web design world as I once was.

I’m trying to get enthused again, though.
