How to insert items between existing items?

Something I’ve not been clear on in FW is how to insert new items in between existing ones in a in-flow design.

For example, take a very simple situation, you have a page wrapper, and in that wrapper, there are 3 HTML items all width 100%.

How do you insert a new HTML box between existing items 1 and 2, say?

Doing a copy and paste seems to insert the item as an object, which is not what I want.

Usually I manage it with workarounds like duplicating an item, etc. but there must be a better way.

Any help appreciated!

Click on the one above where you want it, so its corner handles appear. Then press the right arrow once. Now paste. Your item will appear within the two existing items.

Thank you so much Walter. Again, you are a life saver!

Did you see my comment on the Sticker action page?

I’m having some issues. Can you look at http://freewaytalk.net/thread/view/155385 after the post on 2 Nov at 1000 and see if you can offer any assistance on the Sticker action?

Thanks again.

I’m not sure what the question is in this thread. Can you make a single example and give me some steps to reproduce the problem you’re having? All of the pages seemed to work fine in the “responsinator” page I saw linked there, and I don’t see any other links in that whole thread that aren’t Dave’s page. Maybe I’m overlooking something here.

One thing to know about the Sticker Action is that it does some clever things to force an absolutely-positioned element to stay put visually when the page scrolls, and it does some different things for relative positioned elements, but both of these are tricks, and don’t play well with resizing the screen after it loads. They do work perfectly in whatever size of screen you use when the page is loaded into that screen size. You may want to resize your window and then reload before deciding whether or not it is working for you.

Walter, the issue is that on sites when using the Sticker action, on first click/tap of a menu item after a fresh loading, the action overshoots the anchor. After the first click it works fine.

There is also the issue of jumping, which is related to the first problem. Again, loading a site from fresh - it has to be fresh, just going back to the top won’t show the issue as it has already been resolved - if you drag/pull down from the top, you will see the content jump up from its initial position. However, if you do the drag/pull from the top BEFORE clicking a menu item the overshoot doesn’t happen.

This happens on Dave’s little example as well as any other I’ve tried. It happens on iOS devices, Windows and Mac browsers.

Look at eyemack.co.uk for another example. Load it, click on a menu item, say, Portfolio, and you will see that initially, the action overshoots the anchor point. Click Portfolio again, and it goes to the correct position.

I hope my explanation makes some kind of sense!

I’m not seeing any sticker elements on eyemack.co.uk at all. Where should I be looking?

HI Walter. Ignore eyemack for the moment, although the Sticker action is applied to the navbar item.

It happens with anything I try to use it with. Look at eyemack.co.uk/test

That is a very simple 2 html box text. Both have a bit of text, and the top one has the Sticker action applied. You can see that at first load it looks OK, but then scrolling down or dragging down from the top gives bad results.

This is a similar effect to the other sites I mentioned.

I appreciate that it is inevitably something I am doing wrong, but I wish I knew what!

(PS Do you think we should move this to the other thread?)

Try placing your sticker element as a fixed-position element (not in-flow within the PageDiv). And yes, we should go back to the other thread.
