How to test emails?

I’ve created an html email in FW using the Create Email action. All seem well, mostly, as far as I’ve been able to tell. I sent it from my hosting service and looked at it in mail.app and it looks fine. I also looked at it on a friend’s Windows machine in Outlook Express (not sure what version) and it looked just fine there, the same as in my mail.app.

When I looked at it in webmail on my hosting service it looked different from the way it looked in the email client, that is, the background color was gone and the spacing was a little different but it was quite acceptable and all the links worked and the pictures were visible. Actually in my friend’s outlook express, there were Xs where the picture should have been, but he clicked some kind of “show pictures” button (I’m not too familiar with Outlook Express) and they all showed up just fine.

Given what I’ve read about how things can go wrong with html emails, I’m wondering whether any folks on the list might suggest other ways I should be testing this in order to make sure it will really be ok when I send it out.

TIA
Martin

If you don’t mind paying for a service then this is definitely one of
the nicest and most comprehensive services I’ve found so far. Whether
you think it’s worth the expense is another matter, of course. <http://litmus.com/
